I'm in need of some good advice for a 66 Auto (c4) 41,000 mile 2V-289. I'd like to upgrade the engine to a 4V with a mild cam and perhaps some head work or aftermarket heads. I've heard that the dished pistons of the 2V engine don't have valve reliefs and can cause problems with aftermarket heads or cams. What cam/head combos or head modifications can I use and still maintain the stock bottom end?

Pieces I already have are a 4100 1.08 Autolite 4V, Tri-Y headers, and a Ford Motorsport Dual Plane intake. I'd like to add a Comp 256, 268, 270 cam.

Note: the heads have good seals but likely need hardened seats. Is pulling them and porting them (gasket matching) worth the effort in horsepower gained? Will a 3 angle-valve job and guideplates/press -in studs/springs be required even with a slightly mild cam such as the Comp cam 256?

Thanks for any and all advice....I need it!

Go to the classic mustang section, this section is for the new mach 1's. To answer your question though, call comp cams and ask them, they should have your answer.

Check the comp 262 extreme energy cam. Yes to needing valve reliefs. Nice little cam.
