289 distributor removal

How do i go about removing my distributor. i pulled the wires and everything marking em up and what not but when i took off the clamp for the distributor and tried to pull it out the darm thing goes up about a 1/4 inch and stops. i cant figure out how to get it out. any help?
 
sounds familiar. my 289's distributor corroded and siezed up in the engine. i dont know if yours is as bad as mine was, but i ended up destroying the distributor and it took a few days of penetrating oil, 4 foot long pry bars and pipe wrenches to get it out. i would only us my method as a last resort though.

There is likely an accumulation of sludge in the bore of the block where the dist goes in. Lots of Blaster (penetrating oil) and a bar with a good stout hook on the end to pry under the edge of the dist flange, and a good amount of blue language will usually get your distributor out. Good luck.
