The guy that gave it to me Has A GT.500 Eleanor. And its the REAL THING NOT A CLONE. HE Has a Picture with Carroll Shelby And writen Documents that its real I have never seen such a nice car and he has two other Real GT.500 sitting in his garage. Wow I would have loved to be him.
Where in San Jose is this guy? His name isn't Butch is it? When I went to look at my first car with my dad, we went into this shop just behind Independence High School and this guy had cars upon cars in there. I looked over in the corner and there were 2 Shelby GT500's sitting side by side. If memory services me, there was only about 15000 miles on each and they were started and let run for 30 minutes every week. I asked if I could have one of those, the guy just kind of chuckled and gave the "Uh, no" answer. He was saving them for his grandkids.. Little bastards.... I did end up with an old Willy's Jeep though. That day started 2 obsessions, Jeeps and Mustangs.

I haven't weighed the 292 my old man has sitting in his yard, but it is nowhere near the size of a 385 series. It's not even as big as a Cleveland....maybe a 351W.......I'm pretty sure anyway. I'm going to have to break down and get some size comparison pictures for all the engines between us. I have a 289, (built)302, and a 351W; he has a (built)390, 292, and 351C. Everything but the 390 and 302 is junk, unfortunately.
I wouldn't mind rebuilding the 292 and putting in either his '42 Ford dumptruck or building a '50s style slingshot dragster for it. It is an original 4bbl engine out of a '57 Custom 300 and AFAIK, never been bored.
Just picked up a 292y block dose anyone know anything about this engine? It came off from a 1954 ford truck dont remember what model but how much is it worth looks like in good shape.... He told me clean it and it will run. as in take off all the dirt from it and grime Its been sitting in a storage for 25 years was running when takin out.
Hi I came across your thread on the 292y-block, Do you still have the motor I know its been awhile since it was posted, I am looking for the 292 for a restore I. am doing.
If it is a truck 292, it should have a forged crank and would be very desirable for a vintage racer. Check for casting lines on the crank (narrow = stock, wide = forged). Y-blocks, especially stock bore ones are desirable for those restoring 1st gen T-birds and other Fords. The Ys are heavy, though, and are as large and heavy as a 429.

I've never heard of these engines having steel cranks and as far as one being as big as a 429, they're closer in size to a small block Chevy. They're downfall was the stacked intake ports.........................................And now that I've studied this thread more, it's almost as old as a Y-Block..................

i have heard that the trucks got forged cranks as well. also either the 292 or 312 crank makes a great crank to use as a stroker crank for a 289/302 block, that's what the reacer used to stroke a SBF before the proliferation of aftermarket stroker cranks......

I haven't had much experience with the Y blocks, so you could be right about that. I do recall the bore spacing was carried over to the small blocks, along with the journal diameters. That would definately prove that these engines were no where near the size of the 385 series motors.
