When driving my car between 2k and 2.8k rpms (in any gear) I hear what sounds like an exhaust leak or the valves "clapping" really hard. I have tried to replicate the sound in the driveway out of gear and I can not replicate. I would think if I had an exhaust leak, I would hear it all of the time, same with the valves. Once I pass 3k or below 2k, I do not hear it.

Any idea what this might be??

Pinging? Mine sounds a little bit like that when I'm experiencing ping, and it's only while under a load. What's your timing/octane?

I also thought that... I am running 15 degrees timing and 93 octane.

I'd double check for an exhaust leak.

Good luck.

would'nt you think you would hear and exhaust leak all of the time?? But I guess if the engine is "twisting" under torque it could happen.

I've had a few small leaks that were heard only under certain situations, like WOT from 2-3K RPM.

I can not find any noticable leaks, I guess I will have the remove the headers and re-install. Thanks for the tip.

Any other ideas incase the headers are not the cause?
