2v to 4v swap, is it emissions legal?

Hi again,

I know I ask a lot of emissions questions (probably left over paranoia from living in CA) any way, is this swap legal (2v to 4v), or will I go through hell trying to get this combo smoged. When I was in AZ I asked DMV there this same question, but never got a response. If any one here knows the answer It would be much appreciated.

Kind of helps. The reason I ask is because if I remember correctly, in CA you could not legally have an engine in the car that was a) older than the car. For example you could not have a 1970 LS6 in a 1980 Camaro legaly (sorry to use the "C" word here) and b) you could not have an engine in the car that was not offered as OE for that model. Im not sure though if that means its ok for the GT to get a 4v because it was offered for the Mustang, or if it means its not ok for the GT to get a 4v because it was only offered for the Mach 1 (Which is obviously different than the GT). I have not had an OBD test yet, so I dont know what exactly it entails. I know they hook up to the ECU, and they look under the car for cats. Do they pop the hood to see whats going on under there too. Im very confused over the legality of this swap.

I may have found out the answer to my own question today. I went to a locaol Ford dealer today to see if I could afford a Mach I ( I cant) so I then asked the dealer if it was legal to do the swap (2V to 4V) and he said I could, and that all NY cares about is that the car passes emissions testing. So, I may do this swap, but I guess I had better not move back to CA anytime soon
