My door tag translated to a 3.27 traction lock on a 1993 GT 5spd convertible - I have read that it was never offered with the 5spd - I have a set of 3.73 gears new in the box from Motorsport that came with the car but if I have 3.27's already I would like to try those for a while with a little shorter tire since it needs tires now and I am low on funds for a gear swap - what size tire should I try - currently it has factory 225/55/16's and I was thinking of 225/50/16's - ideas?

I too have never heard of a 5spd from the factory with 3.27's. I thought they were 2.73's or 3.08s.

AOD's had 2.73 or 3.27's I believe. My 86 AOD came with 3.27's.

Going with a lower than stock profile... 50 series, 40 series etc... has the effect of making your 3.27's act like 3.55's or 3.73s where as adding a taller than stock tire, turns your 3.27's into 3.08's. Not 100% acurate but you get the gist of it.

Check the axle tag. As I understand it, 3.27's were an option on automatic equipped Mustangs as well. But, like you, I haven't heard of 3.27's as a 5 speed option.

The other thing you can do is spin the tires and count the number of revolutions that the driveshaft makes. If it spins about 3 1/4 revoultions, you would have the 3.27's.

Seems to me that 3.27's might have been offered on stick in 1987. But I have not heard of it after that, and I have not actually confirmed even that personally.

3.27's were an AOD only option really.

3.08's were the only option on 5-spds, and standard on the '93 Cobra.

Fox Saleens had an option of 3.55's

Standard gear for all is the suck-ass 2.73
