3:31 vs 2:73 on '11 V6 Performance and MPG???

I was wondering if anybody can give a good answer as to the difference between the stock 2:73 and the optional 3:31 rearend on the performance and mpg of the new '11 V6.

I am looking to get a 2011 V6 in the next few months, and I was looking to get the V6 Performance Package to get the upgraded handling, but it automatically comes with the 3:31 rearend. If I could, i'd opt for the V6 PP w/o the 3:31 but that doesn't appear to be and option at this time.

The main reason I want the V6 PP is for the handling, as it appears to be a package similar to the Track Pack that was an otion on the 2010 GT that got such RAVE reviews. I also understand that the BASE V6 comes with a similar handling package to the Original 2005-2010 GT which isnt really bad at all either. Correct me if I am wrong on this please.

Any help is much appreciated
(and thanks to Doug M. for getting me this far along!)

Thanks,

Exactly! Did you see the experiment Ford ran on the V-6 running laps on a track? They got 48mpg, granted it was at 43mph but if consider that it most likely wasn't in top gear so on highway in 6th it should be at the same RPM as the test and with just a little more wind drag the car should still get around 40mpg. Just my theory though if you go by numbers.

Yes I did see that.

I thought they were in 6th most of the track time. I know the low ave was in part due to the fact that every 1 hr they came in for a driver change and they did slow stops and slow accelleration. I think while on track, they were between 45-55mpg when not pitting.

Still mid 30s should be in reach once its broken in, and a hyper-miler could get 40 IMO (though i dont know what a hyper-miler would be doing with a Mustang).
