3:55 Gears

I`m planning on buying gears in the next week or so. Ford racing 3:55 gears good to go with? Im` def. staying with the 3:55 cause they are good for the street and won`t be jerking around and drinkin gas like crazy. haha Just checking on some good brands of gears to get?

I did the same gears and love them. Not to much gear, but I can still pull real hard when I need to. I will watch this thread, because if mine ever fail I don't want to reinvent the wheel searching. Great question D.

A lot of guys recommend FRPP gears, especially if you're installing them yourself. They're supposedly easier to install than other brands. However, I have Richmonds, that I let a guy install, and I have ZERO whine with them. So either way, you can't go wrong.

I just can't see going lower than 3:73.

I can't see going numerically higher than 3.55

1. I hate up-shifting more than is necessary ... takes all the fun outta driving :(
2. Putting 3.73's or shorter gears in a 5spd car is a mistake when the car might eventually get a chunky power adder :Damnit:
3. Who wants to be the quickest guy to the gas station and bearing store?
4. 0-60 is about right, cause anything above 60 and the engine might seize :D
5. The state patrol follows you all the way home when you don't have enough gear to pull away :Track:
6. Installing dual tanks and a switch so you can take a road trip without running outta gas sux :bang:
7. Becasue I said so

is it a 5-speed? you won't have crazy 60' times but you'll notice a diff.

if it's an auto you won't even notice a difference

How the hell can you say this

You must have a numb azz?
I can even notice sotp feel between close sets like a 3.90 and a 3.73 .. although not great, it is definitely noticeable.

3.55's are a great gear and do add considerable pull to a ride.

What kind of gear do you guys think i should get; i have a '90 GT with Bassani full exhaust w/ long tubes(3") w/ 3.5" chrome tips, and other basic stuff like MSD ignition & cold air intake.

I do about 10% highway driving, and store it over the winter.

I'm not sure which gear, either 3.55, 3.73 or the 3.90! My buddies tell me to get the 4.10 but that is just to much for me.

Yea, i totally c where your coming from, one of my buddies w/ a 93 LX has 4.10 gears and i can't c how he uses it as a daily driver. And one of my other buddies has a '99 cobra w/ 4.30 gears..huge!

I guess i'll probably just stick w/ the 3.55, and if i dislike it, i'll just get a bigger one.

FWIW, I've run 4.30's and 3.55's in mine, sure the car jumps with 4.30's, but it didnt do anything for 1/4 ET's.. pretty much the same with either gear, one less shift with 3.55's.. 6000rpm in 3rd with 3.55's, same rpm in 4th with 4.30's

3.55 vs 3.73 isnt a big deal, going to a taller or shorter tire will do about the same thing..
