3.55 or 3.73 for a Nearly Stock Cobra?

I have some time off due to a work shutdown, so I figured this is a great oportunity to replace the 3.08 ring and pinion in my '95 Cobra. The car is nearly stock, but will be improved over the next couple of years. The suspension comes first, then I'll go after the engine. The problem is that I can't decide which ratio to go with, 3.55 or 3.73.

The car is only a summer/weekend driver, so gas mileage is not a consideration. Howver, I am concerned about traction. The tires already get very loose with the stock gears at WOT in first if it's colder than 60 F out. I'm going to upgrade the lower and upper control arms when I do the gear, so that should help with the traction issues, but I'm still concered that the 3.73 might be too much. I already have a 3.55 set, so I would have to order the 3.73 if I decide to change. Is it worth it?

Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks

I have had 3.08's, 3.55's, 3.27's and 3.90's in my car when I had the 302/306c.i. I would say, get better tires and go 3.73's. The cobra has much better breathing heads than a regular GT so you can rev it out anyway. I went 3.55's with my 414 only because I thought it would give me better street traction than any other set of gears considering my set up.

A 3.73 would have been a better choice but the difference from a 3.55 won't be significant enough for you to splash out more cash. You could try selling the 3.55 set to recoup some money if you really feel like getting the 3.73.

Normally I'd say the 3.55s, but since you already have 3.08s in the car and you do plan on more modding in the future I'd got with the 3.73s

Personally I would go with the 3.73s. My Cobra is also nearly stock with the exception of exhaust, and the 3.73s made a hell of a difference.
