I have a 97 mustang gt with a bbk o/r H pipe and Flowmaster exhaust and i want to do gears on my car. I want to go with the 3.73's but wanted to hear other peoples opinions. It is my daily driver and i am a college student but love to go to the drag strip. Also was wondering if a cold air intake and 70mm throttle body would help take some time off my et's?
Thanks

everyone is going to say 4.10's and/or headswap (and i have to agree)

as for the cai and tb, don't even bother. spend the cash on something useful like a shifter and suspension mods or skip them all together and save up for the headswap. nickel and dime mods won't get you anywhere

I agree 100%. Even some people who have blowers still go with 4.10's and if u plan to stay N/A definetely do 4.10's. Even better do the headswap its the best thing I have done so far. Makes the car completely different from 3500+. Hes also right about little bolt-ons dont waste your money. First worry about maximizing the potential of the power you have now with some suspension and tires. Then once u are cutting some nice 60' then worry about adding more power. Only bolt-ons I would suggest are some LT's headers and cams those are the only two that are gonna get you some real noticable gains.

If you do a lot of highway driving, go 3.73's. The trannies on the 96-98 GT's have a .67 5th gear ratio unlike the .62 on 99+ Mustangs. If you don't mind "winding out" on the highway AND you plan on installing a high-rpm cam go 4.10's. However, with 4.10's you will run out of gear in the 1/4 mile with a mostly stock engine. I went with 3.55's on my 96 GT since I'm always on the highway and FI is in the future.

4.10's don't worry about highway either, i drive 80 mi. a day at 70+mph with mine getting over 20mpg easily.

"with 4.10's you will run out of gear in the 1/4 mile with a mostly stock engine."

this is an outright lie.

oh yah by the way speaking of gears. Tomorrow is the big day for me and my FRPP 3.73's . Its cost me so much already but my instal will not run me that much. Only $160. bearing kit $89 3.73 $199 Oil+friction modifier $ 75

that adds up to about hmmm Damn $523 i hope it's gonna be worth it
P.S. i had to add it to my mods list since i'm doing it tomorrow , wish me luck

3.73 = supercharger OR if you do a lot of highway driving.

4.10/4.30= drag strip or weekend street warrior from light to light

I would suggest the 4.10s or 4.30s for you if you like the strip becuase 3.73 wont be as much of a gain for you. However though, if you race on the highway, you may have a hard time beating people with the 4.10s. 4.10s really dont race to well from 60-100mph and up...3.73s will though.

Its all personaly preference. And if you want to see big gains, you have to get a PI headswap

I have a N/A 97 GT w/ the same mods and I have 3.73's...I love them, if you ask me 4.10's could be too much b/c i don't EVER use 1st gear unless I am racing....4.10's may be the best to buy, and I probably would try them but I am putting a 03 cobra engine in so I'm staying w/ the 373's...You will love the 3.73's...no clue on the 4.10's

I'm going with 3.73's and I drive about 50 miles per day, open Interstate. It's hard to justify the change, but the extra pick-up in 5th will be nice. Wish 3.73 came stock in the 99-04 cars.... 3.27's seemed like leftover parts from the Fox days.

4.10's and love them on the highway I knock down over 23mpg. and 60-100 I eat up people. Raced my buddy who's fox has 3.73's and alot more parts than me and pulled him by a car. However with your 5th you may prefer the 3.73 on the highway. As far as the other upgrades I suggest comparing the $ you would spend to the HP gained and decide if it is worth it to you. If your buying new parts I don't think it would be worth it at least not to me, however if you can score used parts cheap then....
