Perhaps you could help us out by describing in detail - excruciating detail please - what the symptoms are and how & when it's manifesting itself. Whine? Chattering? Only when cornering? Only when accelerating? Only when decelerating? Etc etc etc...

I will offer this: if the mechanic suspects clutches and you just had the rear gears changed, asked him if he added friction modifier to the new 75W140 synthetic fluid he put in when he finished up...

And BTW, if you even suspect your rear end is "messed up", don't go 131.5MPH until you figure out exactly what's wrong.

the sound comes mainly when turning "right" only. like metal rubbing sound. Ford just replaced my axle and axle bearing , but the noise is still there. The mechanin said its the diff clutch  i 1st heard the noise right after the guy finished installing the 3.73 , and yes he did add friction modifier to the 74W140 synthetic fluid after he was done.they told me now that i can use the car until they have the part available (the diff clutch) and then they will call me in , to replace it.

My 03 did this as well. I bought it used with 17k miles on it. The week after I bought it that same kind of sound happend but only on left hand turns and sometimes when backing up. Now with over 30k miles it doesn't do it. If it does, I just don't hear it any more. They told me differential clutches also but couldn't replicate the sound so they never replaced anything.
