hey need some help on this one. im switching over to a 351 efi motor and was wondering if the stock manifolds from the 351 will work until i can afford hooker swap headers?. also is there a issue with hood clearance or is there a way around this i wanted to keep a low profile. and will i need to buy a maf for the motor my car is s/d but the 1992 351 i believe is a maf. thanks for the help.

I doubt the exhaust manifold will work.
but out of curiousity, what vehicle is this manifold 'stock' in?

Hood clearance is tough with most intake manifolds.
You can play with motor mount/intake options to get under the stock hood though.
I pulled it off, but just barely...

For the MAF...
What ecu are you going to use?
Injectors?
I would go with an LMAF, but that is just my opinion. The downside to the LMAF is the requirement for a J3 tune.

check the link in my sig for my website...
I have a 351w swap page there...

well the motor i have is a full 1992 everything included except the maf. so i may just pick up a stock maf and run the 5.0 comp. would that work..stock 5.8 injectors. ill be pulling the motor after the holiday to install my 393 stroker componets.

What vehicle was the 92 351w pulled from?
I would *guess* those to be 19Lb. injectors, but I'm not sure.
What color are the injectors?
You will need at least 24's for the 393w (depending...), so there's no point in buying a calibrated MAF meter now.
A stocker will work well.

What 5.0 computer? You will be converting the car from SD to MAF, correct?

Sounds like great project car :nice:

either a van or the truck..lol..im not too sure. according to a calculator i used im trying for a 500 hp build if achieve that i will need around 34-36lb injectors. i was planning on the efi route but i figure for the same money it will take to get it working i can just go with a decent carb setup. im not too concerned with mpg so easiest route at this point how diffcult is it to switch over to carb????

ps could i use the ho top intake manifold with the 351 lower??

Nope.
The runner patterns are similar, but once you get them both apart to inspect the manifolds you will see how they won't mate up.

I have no idea what it would take to switch to carb, the thought never crossed my mind...

42's may be a safer bet than pushing the limits of 36's.
Leaves room for future growth as well.
I'll be using 42's on my 410w when it goes back together. Previously, I was maxing out 30's.

i thought he was saying use the stock 5.0 manifolds.
The quote you posted is the only source I can remember seeing that says the stock 302 exhaust will work when converting to 351w.

The taller deck height pushes the exhaust out and up, into the trans tunnel.
Some have said they got 302 headers to fit, but it took a fair amount of hammering...

It doesn't hurt to mock it up and find out, but typically swap headers are required.

BBK sells swap headers for 225 and fit perfect..i would save up for those, it's worth it in the long run. I did the swap you can PM me with any questions, a carb would be much cheaper and easier to finish(bolt on and go). good luck!

going carb

if i go with a carb setup will i be able to retain the use of my gauges?..what i plan on doing is this
92 351 block
edel rpm air gap manifold w/ 800 carb electric choke
ho cam from the 302 if its not smaller then the 351????
bbk swap headers
new poly mounts
frpp swap pan
diffrent pump meant for carb
gt40 ported heads
1.7 crane rockers
smog/ac/ps delete
and can i buy conversion kit so i can use my nos setup on a carb??

thanks for the help looks like im doing some shopping this week.
