I am not a mechanic. My question is what would be the reason for changing the timing and firing order on my 302 to a 351? This is all within a 1965 2+2 fastback. The shop that put this wonderful 50 year old back together included in my purchase papers some of the specs on what they and others did to complete the rebuild. One of these pieces of paper stated that the firing order is that of a 351.
Any ideas what that is all about?
Thanks, I learn a lot from all of you.

Because a 289 and a 302 both use the same cam with the firing order of 15426378 and that means 1 and 5 fire almost at the same time and the thought is that it will beat the front main bearing out .The cams interchange between the 289 ,302 ,and the 351 so the 351 came is used to take some of the load off the front main bearing .And that is why you have a different firing order now .
