my car now burns radiator fluid as well as 500 miles per quart of oil, so now i'm thinking an 0 ring and a head gasket, so i'm gonna do a rebuild so i was wondering how i convert to 306ci? besides have it machined...is it just bigger seals on the pistons or do i need bigger pistons? etc etc? do i need anything else besides machined .030 and new pistons/rings? thanks for your help

Well you'll need bigger pistons and rings togo with them but thats about it. You wou't gain much power though. The only reason I could see to do it would be if you f'ed things up inside bad or if you were putting in all forged stuff.

Well you're going to have to tear the whole motor apart anyway so you might as well do it right once... or else you might end up having to do it again soon... ya know?

check the crank and make sure its all within specs. somethin on the internets gotta have the specs for it otherwise get the ho5.0 book from hayness or whatever the company is. id swap the cam if you were ever plannin on doin that too cause its really easy when its down to the bare block. just my thoughts and if your not plannin on throwin on a blower you might as well get high comp pistons while your at it.

If you need any clearances or torque specs, let me know. I have an 89 Mustang Shop manual from Ford.

I'd get the block bored, new cam bearings, crank and rod bearings, frost plugs, pistons and rings. Get it all done the first time.

getting a new oil pump would also be good, probably straind a little by now. just have the machine shop turn the crank, they will get all the bearings for you, at least the guy that always does ours will. i have heard that when increasing displacement you should get a new ballancer (rotation balance), but dont know that for sure

You kind of have to replace everything when you tear it apart. Reusing things is not too smart. When rebuilding an engine you need to replace all gaskets, rings, bearings, freeze plugs, timing chain, and oil pump. How many miles are on your engine is what you need to ask yourself. If its up there in mileage than a bore is probably mandatory which will require new pistons. Then you need to also pay for the hone and the labor to remove the oil pistons and press in the new ones. Then you have to get it balanced because you have changed everything. So you have to bring him your flywheel and balancer. O-ringing is pointless and you dont need to do it especially if you are N/A. They make new head gaskets that support just as much boost as an O-ringed block. Have you thought that maybe a coolant pressure check and a cylinder pressure check could solve your problems. IT could be that maybe you just have a bad radiator cap or something and that maybe just your valve seals are bad. This would save you like a 1000 bucks. Dont just jump into a rebuild if you dont need it.
