306 s-trim'ed stock Internals = ?

I am looking for some advice on my future build.
My plans are to build a 300whp N/A car with the plans to add an s-trim for 400+hp within a year. No way can I afford a dart block as of rite now so I don't see any benefit in getting expensive internals since the block is the weak link. Id rather save that money now and invest it into a dart block with bullet proof internals later on. so with the stock internals in addition to some nice pistons running a 9:1 comp will I be able to achieve 300whp na and 400 sc'ed with a fresh 306, tfs top end kit and all the bolt ons? Will the Stock internals handle the power?

stock block,s are good up to 450 hp with a good tune and no detonatin, after 450 you increase the chance of spliting the block, the block is first to go

thanks for the quick replies, let me make sure i have this straight.
the stock block and stock internals will hold up with no issues with the power levels i want to make? even with 10psi?
will i benefit any from going with a lower or higher compression ratio?

that link is not working, just curious about the splitting. i developed a oil leak at the top of the timing chain cover where it meets the block on the left and right corner.

Iam aiming for about 425 whp in the spring, and possibly up to 450 if my blower will allow it but I wouldnt go over 450 on the stock block. Many of the split blocks are a result of 500+ hp or a bad tune so they dentinate. Basicly to be safe, stick with under 450 and you will be fine from what Ive seen.

my freind just split his stock block after 4-5 years of turbo abuse.the last #'s he put down were 522 rwhp and 526rwtq.

Euh, hate to state the obvious, but how are you going to use "stock internals" with a 306 (i.e. pistons)???

He said stock internals with the addition of pistons. I think he means the bottom end.

seen these blocks be pushed to 550 all day long with years of abuse and still working, also seen them do one run down the track and split them too lol

What kind of preparation is needed for the block to be refreshend? Magnafluxing, honing anything else?
Does anything have to be done to the rotating assembly? Like re-balancing?
And how much do you think I’m going to have to pay the machine shop?

I'm going to start shopping around to determine if it’s going to cost me less to have a block machined and preped or just order a shortblock from chp or dss.

Anybody making 300rwhp with a n/a 306 9:1 comp? whats ur setup?

I'm making in the range of 300rwhp with a 306 with h/c/i.

My 306 cost right at 2k. I had probe pistons, arp studs and other hardware, resized the stock rods, and everything to rebuild it the most accurate way for longevity. I have balanced it as well...I am at 9.6:1 or so, I plan(ed) to put a S-trim on it, I am not to worried about it breaking with a safe tune.

Maybe its me. But if all you are looking for is 450hp. Why not build a 331 or 347. Its been proven that you can make close to 500hp with either of those strokers. All you need is a decent set of heads. Like AFR185's, Victor Jr, hell D&D has a nice set of 210cc heads assembled. And they are reasonably priced. You dont need a blower to get to 400hp. Especially since you plan on stroking anyway.

Get a decent cam, go with some 1.7 rockers, a 75mm throttle body/MAF, an electric water pump and I would bet would be over 450hp. If you get the heads full CNC you maybe even at or even closer to 500hp.
