Ok so my car has about 200k and it's time for a new motor, theres a guy at the shop that i go to that is selling me his CHP Street Fighter shortblock along with AFR 185 heads, all brand new for $3,200 first of all is that a good price??? What cam should i go with, i plan on supercharging the car but not for awhile because of $$$ the guy at the shop says stick with the stock cam but i think this is the perfect time to upgrade, i need to stay smog legal in california, my mods. are in my sig, also what rockers would you go with??? he says crane, is the CHP Street Fighter a good engine to go with, it's my Daily driver and i need it to be pretty reliable, i am getting a tune ASAP after the build up so thats bugeted for also. What kinda power can i expect in NA form??? also the block has 9:5 flat top pistons which he say's is fine for 8-10 PSI boost is he correct?? THANKS IN ADVANCE.

You want a custom cam. Something our EEC can handle. I have a CHP 347 with a custom cam by Comp. Green94 5.0 has the same cam as me in a CHP 331 with 8.8:1 compression and Vortech charger. Its not running yet, maybe next week. See his thread for details. I wouldn't throw just anything in there. This is your chance to pick a cam perfect for your combo.

yes that sounds like a really good price. the heads go for about $1500 new.

i'd talk to ed curtis or jay allen about a cam. it's a hard call to get an emissions legal, daily driver cam that will be good for both n/a and boost. i bet you are going to have to compromise for something that general purpose.

with that compression (i assume you mean 9.5:1), you won't make as much power n/a, but you will be able to use lower octane gas.

with my afrs, comp pro magnum rockers (CCA-1332-16 ) fit under stock valve covers. if that is a consideration for you, these rockers would do the trick. often, aluminum rockers are too tall to fit, so then you need taller covers, then you need an intake spacer to clear the tal valve covers, then you have hood clearance worries, ...

that is a very exciting project ... good luck with it!

the cam joe and i have is the: Comp Cam - FW 284H-R14 (.533/.544 114LSA). i have yet to start my car with the new combo, but this has been recommended as a fantastic all around cam with a lobe separation that is friendly for our year stangs. my motor is a chp 331 with 8.8:1 compression, afr 185's and a holley systemax intake. joes is a chp 347 with 10.0:1 compression, afr 185's, and a holley systemax intake. the idle and driveability in his car is fantastic and i am expecti ng about the same from mine. hope this helps.....
