Thought he had 165s, I read 185s only flowed slightly better then the 165s in flowchart comparison I think they gained up top no doubt, anyways Fordstrokers (thought about DSS) has got the same price on a 347 I dont know about 165s on a 347 it would pull down low but choke too soon, Id rather have the cubes though, 185s on a 306 would work but of course it would get it on in power a bit higher up so cammed and geared ok, and Ive enjoyed these 165s for going on 6 years now and dont think I could be sold on a Trickflow, just cause of the dyno and flow charts Ive seen, I do appreciate the replys dudes and Im looking forward to setting this car up nice, I plan on keeping it till gasoline is no more. Right now Im thinking 331 185s and if I can KB, or Vortech it later thats for another threadAre you going with a 331 or a 347?
Stock block on either, I would pick the AFR 185cc heads.

I was worried 165s would be a bit squeezed up top, and if the cost of re-doing the 6 year old heads is half of going 185s Iam stepping up.it depends on how you look at it,
exhaust side they flow the same.
but if you look at the intake, at .200 and .300 life the 185's are a few cfm more
at .400 lift they are even
go to .500 lift the 165' start slowing down alot and the 185's pull 17 more cfm
at .600 lift, the 165's gain nothing but the 185's gain another 32 cfm
i think the 165's are perfect for a 302 but if you start climbing the rpm's are go up to a stroker your gonna want the 185's
i plan on running 185's with a 347 turbo setup, maybe just maybe 205's but i doubt it

I remember reading the write up on your car in one of the Stang rags a while back so I was hoping to know for sure, and your running the FTI for the smaller cubes? Im going to look into a custom grind too, cam makes a big difference. I got an inquiry about the Tweecer in the tune section so Im trying to stay as close to budget as I can because Im trying to do the engine, the tuning device, AND buy a daily driver truck while the Stang is on stands. If I can run the 165s so much the better, but If I think long term down the road for a power adder 185s would be better. I can order the short block and wait on the heads, hurry up though! RNH IS BOOKMARKED.I'm running box stock AFR 165 60cc pedestal mount heads with upgraded AFR valve springs. I'm only running these heads because I had them and I was running low on funds last year when I wanted to get the car running. I'm upgrading the heads very soon (hopefully before spring) but I was definitely happy and surprised at how well they performed on my mismatched combo. I've made 355rwhp with them on my 8.89:1 compression 331 with my old FTI cam that was designed for my 302 combo and a holley systemax intake. I will hopefully have results of the fox TB swap and new heads within the next two months if you can wait.
I too HIGHLY recommend Rick at RNH. He is a true engine builder, not just an assembler. He built my 331 shortblock and I couldn't have been happier or treated better by anyone else.

Also can any one share some experience they had with Fordstrokers.com pros/cons?
I too was worried about the the heads choking me up top. The heads, my old cam that was designed for a stock stortblock, my 65mm TB that is the 94-95 setup, and my small exhaust led me to believe that this thing would peak in the 5200-5300 RPM range since the old combo peaked at 5500. We did degree the cam in a little differently, and the only changes to the old combo was the addition on a holley systemax intake, the shortblock, and I'm running an AEM standalone now and I ditched the MAF. I was shocked to see just how high this mismatched combo pulled. I made these pulls to the rev limiter and as you can see it was just starting to sign off. I didn't want to rev it much higher with the pedestal mount rockers I run. I will add that I firmly believe that larger heads would have produced higher numbers, and that is a theory that I should be testing soon. I hope to pick up 20-30rwhp with the TB and head swap with no other changes... I hope I'm not being too optimistic. I'm going to continue to work on this NA combo until I get as close to 400rwhp as I can before I put my turbo kit on. Its killing me to see it sitting here collecting dust, but I'm sure the end result will be worth it. Plus a 400rwhp NA 331 is still going to be a blast to drive in the mean time. I just hope I don't run out of injector before I hit that goal as I'm still running my 24's.
Nice, But whats with the lean spike at 2300? I think you will be stepping up to a bigger injector soon, but I'll take your 24s, I keep getting outbid for a set
