347 Build IN PROGRESS!!! Pics inside

FINALLY! I spent the last 2 days working on my 347 after getting my block back from the machine shop. This is so much fun..I'll have to wait till my next off cycle to finish her, but I'm off to a good start. The stroker kit I used was from CHP. I was pretty impressed with the quality. This is my first engine build and its going suprisingly smooth, I guess that's what happends when you take months to plan it! lol. I had to notch the cylinders myself to clear the rod bolts...I got a slick main support/windage tray from DSS Racing so that I could retail a stock oil pan (I decided that I wasn't sure it a support was needed but it could only help!). I included a couple pictures. I mocked up a pics with the AFR 185 heads and RPM II intake, I'll need a 1 " spacer to clear my valve covers, but I am psyched! ..can't wait to finish her!

looks good man. i think im going to make a 347 project out of my stock shortblock when the 331 gets here. ive been itching to put a motor together from scratch.

Yeah, I never realized how much more fun it is to work on an engine OUTSIDE the car..makes a big difference!

Excellent!!!

I thought I was going to need a spacer too but the AFM chrome valve covers are absolutely perfect. Cleared my Holley intake with ease plus I have the stock hood still.

Thanks, I'm stoked (and stroked) Had to get the spacer cause I just love the tall Ford Racing valve covers..The only thing I'm mildly worried about is the torque curve due to the extra inch in the intake. If I don't like it I'll just clean and paint the stock covers and use those. Since I already have the RR hood on, clearance shouldn't be a problem.

Vibe - ended up going with the 1 5/8 primary tubes on the LTs, I see what you meant about the D ports and the 1 5/8 primaries. I really didn't want to go bigger with the exhaust so I ended up grinding open the flanges and cleaning the welds..It's not perfect, but it should work, hopefully I didn't take too much off!

I had to grind up my 1 3/4 tubes too. They were probably 1 5/8 out of the box but I made sure they were 1 3/4 when I was done.

Motor looks good. What's the compression?

Ahhhh...didn't see the rag on the VC...I was looking at the TB side and things looked fine for room....to bad as it looks like your only off a tad...

RIO - Yeah, there is actually an opening plate on the bottom of the upper (~1/8") that still needs attaching, otherwise, the rear would fit fine. The real challenge is the drop that the adapter puts on the TB, that's about 3/4" off.

Vibe: I wanna say its around 9.3:1; won't be the highest compression out there, but should be good for longevity.

Do those use the stock thin steel gasket or the cork ones, and do you need to buy those separately?

i dream about building a 331 from the bottom up. but i have to build a garage first.

The AFM valve covers use the steel stock gaskets. So the ones you have now can be transferred over.
