347 stroker piston/cam question

If you want a good 347 first off, dont waste your time with hyper pistons, get a set of probe, SRP, or JE (like i have) if the money permits. As far as cams are concerned, steer away from the alphabet cams, give Ed Curtis at FTI a call.

With that many cubes I'd rethink my head choice. The 347 behaves completely differently from a 302. You'll make gobs of torque down low with stock ported heads/small valves, but it has the potential to strangle the engine at revs unless you've really done your homework on the port job. What did they flow intake/exhaust? Cam choice involves the same dynamics. The off the shelf cams out there are designed for 302's. Any cam spec'd for the 302 is going to behave much milder in a 347. I would get one of the custom grinders to help you spec a cam for it. Pistons are easier - bore is the same as any other 30-over 302; a good quality piston should work fine, hyper or forged. If you're planning on adding boost/nitrous, the hypers won't tolerate abusive detonation with as much grace as the forged units. Same thing if you're planning on turning high revs - but with stock heads and a motorsport cam, it won't be revving too high I suspect.
