Like with any new car, there are going to be issues when they first come out.
On the car forums, you only hear about the problems, but they're from a small percentage of owners because nobody will talk about the good things or non-problems.
Since I own a 2003 350Z, my car experienced with the tire feathering problem, but it was fixed under warranty and I also had my front tires replaced all for free.
Besides that, I haven't had any other problems or issues. My car now has 27,700 miles and it still runs strong. I love the way it looks (inside and out), how it performs on the open roads, streets, and on winding roads. I also call it my ricer killer.
As for the new Mustang, there have been problems that owners have had to deal with so it isn't exactly issue free either.
I've read about these, but it hasn't stopped me from ordering/buying a GT.
Just like the Z, I love the way it looks (inside and out) etc...etc.. It has its advantages and disadvantages over the Z, but I don't forget the Z is a 2 seater and the Stang is a 4 seater. Comparing the Z versus the Stang is like comparing apples with oranges.
Since the war with the Camaros and Firebirds is on haitus, what else is there to compare too?
1. GTO? Lots of HP, but uninspiring look. Pontiac should've gone back to its roots and designed a GTO with a style reminicent of the 60s and early 70s.
2. RX8? Unique style, but I can't stand the sound of that WIMPLE engine.
3. Subaru WRX? Ugly. If were a girl, I wouldn't want to be seen in that. The only advantage is lots of HP and all wheel drive.
4. Dodge Stratus (2-dr coupe)? Are you kidding?
5. Honda? None
6. Mitsubishi Ecipse? Nada
7. Dodge Neon EVO? See Subaru WRX
8. BMW 3 series or M3? Close, but the Mustang looks and is the better value for the money.
9. Infiniti G35 coupe? Close. 350Z's sibling. About $5000 to 6000, more than a comprable Mustang, options wise, but a few less HP than the Z and smoother ride. Only with mods it could hang with the Mustang GT.

Thats all I can think of to compare, unless you can think of more, so I guess the GT is in a class of its own. I don't see any other comparison as of this time.

Oh well, I'll just enjoy driving the two cars I've always wanted to own.
I'm probably the only person who will own a 2005 Mustang GT and a 2003 350Z, at the same time, so I'll be getting the best of both worlds.

Thanks for your input. It's really good to hear from someone who has both, and a totally unbiased opinion. To be honest, I've considered trading in my 04 Titan for an 05 350Z, since the Mustang is both mine and Jewls car. But I need the Titan to haul the racebikes to the track, so not really an option now.

Hey! No problem.
Titan's are badass trucks. Yeah, it would be hard trying to stuff those racebikes in a Z.
By the way, I just got the VIN#. Is that a sign indicating that it'll be coming in the near future? I hope so.
I can't wait to get my new GT.

Yesterday i had the oppurtunity to race a 350 z and boy was it fun of course he was .. We raced twice first of a 20 mph role and that was upon him asking to do it. i surely agreed i burned him then the second race was off a dig and it was just so good owning him.. Definately i am happy with my 05 Mustang GT

The interior quality of the 350Z is simply inexcusable at that price. The power is acceptable if your frame of reference is a 4cyl or V6 sedan. Anyone who has seat time with a V8 sports/muscle car will find a 350Z weak. This car really seems to be targeted for a female audience considering its powerplant and cutsie appearence.

It only has two less HP than the 05 Mustang GT from a 6 cylinder. 298HP with the manual for the Track and Anniversary models. Even the lower (287HP) models are on par with a 99-04 GT, but would be .2-.5 slower than a 05 GT.

The interior isnt bad imo except for the door panels. There is nothing on them. Too plain there but everywhere else its nice.

A 350Z would whip a 05 GT anywhere with turns involved. A 05 GT would whip a 350Z in a straight line.

Looks are a personal preference but obviously the stang is gonna get the nod here.

I would rather have the 350Z for two reasons: 1 - Even though its not as fast imo its more fun to drive (yes I have driven both) and 2 - It is more exclusive imo. I very rarely see any 350s and see many 05 Stangs out now.

IMO - I would not consider the 350s exclusive, they are all over the place here. Now, looking for the 05 Stang is a different story - I certainly do not see one new Stang every day, more like one every 2 or 3 days. 350s, more than 10 a day.

The 350Z is just another overated import. Japanese manufacturers are notorious for making HP claims that don't perform to expectations.

The 350z looks like a frog taking a dump.

I'd take the mustang hands down.

Besides, everybody knows that there is only one Z and that's Z28

I'd say both cars are great, but it's like trying to compare Lance Armstrong and Mike Tyson (well, back when he was great). They're two cars designed for two different objectives. And styling is completely up to the viewer. The mustang probably wins the popularity vote because it's newer. But the Z will be redesigned before the stang, and then IT will be more popular. Depending on what you're looking for in a sports car and styling, there's no clear winner here...IMHO.

Nothing shy of an act of god is going to make a ricemobile more popular than these new Mustangs.

1) Mustang
2) 350
3) Mustang
4) Mustang going away.

The Z is cool and all but for the price I'd rather have a GT. The G35 however I DO really like. But then again for THAT price I might have to swallow the ugly and buy a GTO instead.

I've seen video clips of Skylines in Japan and they are badass.
I don't know if they are modded or not, but I saw this one clip were one of them beat out a Ferrari. They'll be U.S. soon, but I'll still keep my Z.

I did the same poll/question on a more neutral board, you can check out the results here.

http://www.pittspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15730

I've driven both now. My opinion - Liked both cars, looks and driving wise. Giving the mustang the nod, though, because of the big *****-eating grin I got when I hit the skinny pedal.

No offense but around here 350z's are like civics. I have driven imports for years and find driving a v8 to be alot more fun. Gotta love hearing that throaty exhaust.

The handling question is the only one that is close out of all of them. I drove a 350Z around the same corner my mustang takes at 40mph and I nearly lost the ass end of the Z. My buddy would have been mad about that if he had seen his car take that corner.

I thought I saw the 350Z the first time when it was called the Audi TT.

Hold on a sec, you should live around my area. I only know of 3 05 GTs in the area (including myself) and there is, of course, the larger amounts of V6 stangs. I wouldn't consider the Z more exclusive though, since I see more of them a day then I do of any '05 Mustangs. I was thinking about getting a 350z or an RX8, but obviously I chose the Mustang and am extremely happy with it. If the '05 Mustangs looked more like the previous body type ('99-'04) then I would have probably have bought a Z or the RX8 since I think both those cars look better. But, I think the new bodystyle looks amazing and looks better than either of those cars imho.

I agree with NEVRL8 about the handling thing. I remember hearing that the Z doesn't handle as well as you would think it does. I am not sure if the new Mustang is better, but like NEVRL8 said, it would be close.
