I picked up a 351 roller short block last night. It already had a roller cam installed and was supposedly the stock cam for that engine.

I recall reading somewhere that even though they were roller compatible ford never installed roller cams in the 351w?

Does anybody really know???

Any idea on what I can do to figure out what cam it really is if it's not OE?

Does the type (1 piece or 2 piece) of rear main seal make a difference in the oil pan that I use?

Thanks
RV

Not a roller block but I used my 69' oil pan on my 89 block with a 1 pc rear seal. No issues. Just has to be a pan from a 351.

As a side note, I also used a 65' 289 timing cover and harmonic balancer to retain my 65 water pump and pulleys.

The roller 351 had the F4TE hyd roller. Same cam used in the 94-up pickup and Van 5.0 and the later 96-2001 Explorer/Mountaineer. Good street cam when used with 1.7 rockers. Lift with the 1.7's is .450/.473 ( int/exh) duration is one step below the GT/HO 5.0 cam at 256/266 degrees (advertised) I've got one in my "spare" 5.0 in my 89 Ranger, works great with either an automatic or 4 speed and a 600 Holley 4 bbl carb.
