351 Windsor in a 67 Fairlane GTA?

I have a 1995 Mustang with a built 351 stroker motor. I am considering having that put into my 1967 Fairlane.

Are the engine mounts the same? How hard would it be to get the 351 into the Fairlane?

It's really easy. I wouldn't do it though. That 390 BELONGS where it is. IMO...leave it there! (Don't go changing stuff. That's how the whole Mustang thing got started! Enjoy the Fairlane, the way Edsel intended!)

the thing is, my wife is insisting that i sell the mustang, and i don't want to lose that motor. i'm thinking this way i wouldn't feel bad about saying goodbye to the stang.

Seeing as how the engine comaprtment would hold a 390 or 427 with room, and also since most V8 Fairlanes in 66-67 were 289's, it should fit right in. Tons of places sell parts for them still. My guess is stock 289 motor mounts would work. The easiest thing is to go carb and get a vacuum advance distributor for it.

it would fit without a problem. just dont get rid of the original 390. it would make that fairlane haul balls for sure. are u planning on leaving it fuelie or going carb? is the 'lane an auto or 4spd?

i would definately keep the original 390 in case i ever decided to sell the car. without the original motor, the car would be worth alot less.

i would also definately go carb. that would be 100 times more straightforward, and it would be period correct.

it has a c6 right now, and i'd like to stay with a c6. i guess i'd need a different bell housing? it must be possible to put a c6 on a 351 somehow.

There are smallblock bellhousing C6's available. You'll have to do that. The BH is integrated into the tranny on the C6. Use 289 mounts. Most of the other things are "no brainers" on that kind of swap. I still wouldn't do it, though.

Why don't you pull the motor on the Mustang, put a JY eng/tranny in it? Sell it and keep the hot Windsor on a stand in the garage(waiting for the next project.). For God's sake, don't pull another car apart! Drive the Fairlane, till the wheels fall off it. It's a big block. It'll (with some minor parts swapping) make more than enough power to get you into plenty of trouble.

You can get a C6 with the SBF bellhousing from an old ford pickup or Bronco, if you're looking to go the cheaper/junkyard route.

What's the wife's daily driver? With a little elbow grease, maybe you can shoehorn the 351 into that thing!!!

lol her driver is a dodge caravan. that woudl be fun with the 410 in it

there is a guy, jackson transmissions, who sells performance C6s on ebay. he has a feedback rating of 100% on about 2500 transactions. i've never seen a 100% like that, usually it is more like 98%, so i think he can be trusted. he has a 500hp C6 with a torque convertor for $600 with $175 shipping.

i still have to figure out about the accessories like the power steering pump and what to do with the AC compressor ... the Fairlane doesn't have AC

i'm working on #1 ... she's very high maintenance ...

and i know what you mean re #2, but ... well ... after, all she did agree to let me buy the fairlane ...

her main concerns are: money for the kids' colleges, and me spending time (that she thinks i don't have right now) on the car(s) because it "takes away" from being a good father and husband

i'm still working on convincing her that it is possible to be a good father and husband and still have time to tinker with the car every now and then.

didnt you say your son was about to need a car. that mustang would be awesome an awesome first car if he is responsible enough for it.(i wish i treated mine better when i first got it). and then it would stay in the family.

plus me and dad always get along better when we work on stuff together. maybe this could be something you could share with him.

Um, NO. matt, nothing personal to you but I don't agree with that idea. I can't count how many "cool dad's" bought cool cars for their kids that end up either wrecking and getting seriously hurt or dying.

The part about working on the car is a good idea....if you drop a v-6 in er.

OK.. OK !! I didnt read all the grow more balls stuff... the 67 Fairlane GTA is worth MORE than Any engine swap out there.... sell the GTA, and ... buy a House?? Get a mistress... get hooked on dope!! In other words THAT car is worth MONEY!!

But... The W will drop right in.. just use the 289 motormounts and a small bell housing C6 or C4 OR AOD!! it will be a shame to mess with the OLD muscle car!! THAT Was my first car of choice in Ca. when I was a kid... bought a Fast back mustang instead!!

No kidding. If I had my current car when I was 15 I swear I woulda killed myself. I had enough close calls while screwing around in my F-150.

C6 transmissions are pretty stout pieces. I've never done any real research on it, but it might be possible to get a junkyard C6, swap some internals to get a cheap but effective tranny. Like I said, just an idea to toy with. It would probably be better just to get a specially built one from that ebay vendor.

i would certainly put the 410 in the fairlane. if you sell the mustang you will never get what you paid for the engine out of the car. atleast then you can enjoy the engine u paid good money to have built.

i also have a c6 that will bolt up to your 351w in my garage. it does need a rebuild which will not cost that much money. i will give you a good deal on it cause i dont want it and its taking up room in the garage.

Ummmm, try "forever". There are guys running HUGE (700cid+) big blocks at the strip (not to mention guys with 44"mud tires in 4x4's and C6's in pulling trucks) that are absolutely abusing them and they still live. I don't think there is anything you could throw at one with that smallblock, in that car, that would kill it. A C4 would prolly be enough for it. An AOD would be good for OTR trips.

Still. I would almost KILL for a big block Fairlane. Why would you put a small block there? (The sound of a 390 with a nice cam and headers can't be beat. Except by maybe a 427FE.)

As far as garage storage. Get a storage unit and keep it (and your other parts) there. That would do the trick.

I hope you aren't REALLY trying to "put the wife in her place". Or......she will GET your place and your kids and your cars and prolly the balls that you've been accused (here) of not having. High maintenance or not, you knew who she was when you tied the ole knot.

i know i know... in most cases its not a good idea to give a 16 year old a fast car. i really wish i would have waited and gotten mine when i was older. it wasnt because of street racing or anything like that just new driver mistakes.

i was just making the statement that when we are working on my car, his 66, or his bronco its when we really bond and thats the times we can agree with most stuff and really talk.

it was just an idea to throw out there and thats why i put if blackvert thought he was responsible enough. but you guys are wiser and more experienced and i still kinda see all this stuff through a kids view point so maybe that wasnt the best of ideas

eh, I got my car when I was 17...and I've caught plenty of crap haha.

of course....no one just gave it to me. I rebuilt the engine and put some tlc into it so I guess it's different.

I say you should keep the fairlane like it is and just enjoy driving around an old big block. Keep the engine in a storage unit for now. Your wife just may be right. It could be a good thing to get rid of a project car.

of course...I don't know your situation or anything...just my .02

fwiw...I'm 19 so that .02 prolly doesn't count for much haha
