I know this maybe a dumb question, but you can't kill a man for asking.

I know a buddy who has a set of LT for a 351 Clevland, I'm wondering if those will work for my motor. I have 351 Windsor heads.

Help please.

nope they are different. A cleveland basically is a BB engine where as the windsor is a small block. The cleveland was a very good engine but there are more aftermarket parts for the windsor thatnks to the 302 H.O. and the fact that the windsor was in production for so many years as apposed to the clevelands 4 year run.

Ok. I was just wondering if I should get these LTs. I could get them for free, but I wanted to know if I had a use for them first.

Nooooo, the Cleveland is a small block, it's a common misconception. It shares the small block bellhousing bolt pattern same as the 289-302-351W. The 351M-400 are the big block, the 351M is a destroked 400. There has been many a debates about this on several forums.

the 351M and 400M were made as the next generation to the cleveland. The cleveland isn't really a small block or a big block. kinda a class of its own.

a cleveland is what they call a "midblock engine" It is different in just about everyway from the windsor blocks and to be honest, stock for stock .....is better in just about every catagory until the aftermarket comes in, if the aftermarket backed the cleveland as much as they backed the windsor we would all be swapping clevelands into our foxes. My orginal plans were to put a cleveland in my car. Picture a bulkier block with boss 302 heads on it and you have a cleveland.....the ports somewhat resemble a 429/460 head. Hearing one of these motors at 9000rpms is pant wetting! I still have pretty much everything i need for a cleveland laying in my shop. Might be a good project for the next 89 notch back i recently acquired?

This is true. I like that you said just about because the cleveland has 2 main oil gallery's where as the windsor has 3. The oiling of the windsor is a much better design.

yep! Two friends of mine have had the last main lock up on them due to oil starvation! I believe the 429/460 have the same problem

I ran an external line from the front of the block to the back when I built my Cleveland to feed the rear mains. I used a piece of 5/16 steel fuel line I had left over from my EFI swap.

Simple restrictor kit and external feed line solve the problem..I know guys who run cleveland with 450+hp and no oiling mods so its not that bad of a problem. Anyhow just messing around about the long tubes...I already have a set of 1 7/8" LT on the car....

I'm just saying that between the 2 designs the windsor has the better set up. The ford engineer's did it better with the windsor then the cleveland well as far as the oiling goes.

you could also look at the fact that there is a reason why one stuck around until the 90s and the other didnt!
