351c Into My 91 Fox

I'm looking to try and swap my 302 out for the 351c 2v motor. I will trying to do this the way most do the 351w swap and use all the Fox fuel injection stuff. This is my daily driver and I am only looking for a modest 300 wheel HP for now. Please do not turn this into a W vs. C debate. I started this to hopefull get some advice from experienced Cleveland owners, and to add to the data base of information on this site.


From a lot of searching this is what I think I need. Please correct everything that is incorrect.


1. Mounts, I have read that the stock 5.0 mounts work just fine. So I plan to buy a set of poly bushings and re-use my factory Fox mounts.

2. Intake, The motor has a decent offenhauser intake on it currently. It's not the greatest but it will do for now. I have a plenum I made a few years ago similar to this one;

I plan to use that with the same BBK throttle body that is currently on the car. And measure the distance between each fuel injector, then drill and weld a bung for the injectros on the offenhauser intake. Hopefully being able to use the stock rails as well.
Trickflow makes a bolt on intake, but at $700 alone, it's to far out of my budget...

3. Headers. I can not get a clear cut answer on which set to use except for the Headman headers built for this swap. But again, at $700, it's just to far out of my budget.

4. Distributor, A 7.5/460 dist. should be a direct bolt in swap. I am not sure if this is true and if there is any wiring involved with it? Or does the Fox harness actually plug right in...?

5. Oil pan and pick up, I have come to the realization that I will have to pony up the money for a Moroso or similar pan here. Dosn't seem to be a way around it. But, I will be using a Qa1 tubular K-member. Will the stock oil pan clear with this K-member?
*I will be using the oil resrtictors from PME and a high volume oil pump. The insurance is well worth the price here to me.

6. Radiator hose, Both hoses need to me modified or replaced with another set? Not to much info on this...?
*I have the stock Fox radiator and fan right now. It cools my car easily even in the Florida summer. Do the 351c tend to run hot at all? Will an upgrade be needed?

7. Fuel, Are the 19lb injectors at 41psi plenty enough to feed my modest 300whp goal? I also have a 255 walbro fuel pump in the car. I have seen a few 302's with the stock 19lb injectors in the 300whp range without a problem.




Other than maybe extending a few lines and wires, is there anything else I need to look out for?



There are so many "How-to" write ups for the 351W, but I can not find a single one for the Cleveland. Giving the C is a preformance motor and the W is a truck motor, You think this would be a little more common. But this could be the definitive guide to a 351C swap how-to.

Just to update for myself...

I checked the block code and heads after picking the motor up today and getting it home. Its not a 2 bolt main 2v motor as I was told. It's actually a 4 bolt main 4v Cobra Jet engine! Right there on the block it says D2AE-CA. And the 4 is clearly there on the heads along with HUGE ports. I was pretty excited to find this out. Now I have to relly think about which direction I want to take this in... That kind of changes things.

What exactly is your budget if you don't mind me asking? If you're not too keen on buying specific swap parts are you building them yourself?

Less. Less is my budget, lol.

Honestly, I stopped buying parts a few years ago and started buying tools and equipment. So I will be doing all the fab and build work myself.

Have you ever plumbed an intake for fuel injection or built custom headers? It sounds like youre looking to head down that road?

I installed a 351C (4V, CC heads) into my 1995 Mustang with a C6. It was not too complicated and I really enjoy driving it!

Item #1: I used the original 351C motor mounts, bolted to the engine, and modified the other end where the mount meets the frame. Before I began the mounts, I bolted up the C6 to the original AODE transmission cross member, which gave me a stable reference that held the engine/transmission in place.

Item #3: I used the original 4V exhaust manifolds that actually clear the steering column rather than the $749.00 swap headers.

Item #4: I installed a MSD 6AL Ignition system. I originally had an HEI distributor that only requires a single switched 12 volt wire ran to it until I got the MSD. You can get the single wire HEI distributor for less than $100.00.

Item #5: You will need an oil pan and an oil pick-up tube for this swap. I used the Canton at the following website, http://www.coasthigh.com/product-p/can-15-720.htm.

I would recommend replacing the rod nuts with the following while you have the oil pan off, " http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ARP-300-8371/".

Item #6: I used a 5.0 V8 radiator with no over heating.

was yours swapped in with fuel injection or carb?

So what flywheel, clutch, and balancer is needed to use with the fox T5?

My motor was already balanced with the flywheel and balancer on the front. I would want to keep these if at all possible...?

I used an Edlebrock intake with a 650 cfm, vacuum-secondary Holley carb.
