I have a '69 Mach 1 with a 351w. The engine is due for a rebuild and I am thinking of going with a 393w. I need to know what parts of the 351w I can use for the 393w.

This is what I currently have:

69 Mach 1
1974 351w block
Weiand Stealth intake
Holley SA 670cfm vacuum secondaries
Carter high flow fuel pump
Compcams 274h cam
Duraspark dizzy
MSD 6A
MSD coil
Hooker long tube headers 1-5/8"
Canton oil pan
Northern aluminum 2-row radiator
C6 tranny w/ shiftkit

The plan is to convert the 351w to a 393w. It's a weekend car and purely for the street. Almost entirely for city driving. As such, emphasis is on torque in the low-to-mid range.

I plan to get the following:

stroker kit from fordstrokers.com
CI cam
Canfield 195 heads
750cfm carb (dp or vacuum secondaries??)

I'm gonna be rebuilding a C4 I have to take the 393w.

I'd like to reuse the intake, headers, fuel pump, ignition, radiator and oil pan of my current engine.

Will my plan work??

What other things should I plan on replacing/upgrading?? Water pump? Timing chain? Flexplate?

The only thing I would change would be the headers. I think you would be restricting a 393 with 1 5/8" headers. If you are going to upgrade to canfield 195's I think you would be better served with some 1 7/8" long tubes, especially if it is just a weekend toy :nice: .

You'll want to make sure that the heads and headers have the same bolt pattern as well. For some reason I'm thinking that the Canfields don't use the stock 2" bolt pattern. I think that the diameter will be ok for what you are doing, but you will be at the upper limit of what they will handle. If you do go bigger 1 3/4" should be plenty.

BTW: I went with fordstrokers and Jay Allen on my 408 as well. If you listen to them you will not be disappointed

im pretty sure you can just buy the crank from various places cat/eagle/scat etc etc look into this google/forums etc as i heard a lot of the ,,name,, brand cranks get churned out from the same source anyways (china!!?) :flag: lol nothing wrong with them but dont be fooled
anyhow once you have the crank you can use speed pro 78 f250 pistons (il get part number to be sure) and your old rods.( not sure about pushrods )making a cheap strong 393. if you want to go roller cam try tacoma cam shafts great service custom grinds for about $150 then you want standard new or used 5.0 roller lifters and a $70 retrofit spider tab/plate kit personaly i would use,,megajolt,, for the ignition
of course you could just throw money at all these parts but you may not be any better off

this was the advice i came up with after googling for weeks just my 2c hope it helps

anyone know if a crank for a 69 351w block will work in a 1980s 351w block?
iv a 393 stroker crank i bought for a 69 but have a 80s motor to build
