i have a 67 stang with a 351 w..here are the mods to it
trick flow twisted wedge heads
holley 750
extreme energy 274h cam
weiand stealth intake manifold
1.6 roller rockers
about 9.5 compression
headers with 2.5" exhaust and flowmaster 40's
8.8" rearend with 3.73 gears
c-4 with stock torque converter
my tires are about 8.5 inches wide 15x 7's 225's i think is the width?

right now im guessing im running low 14's. is the stock torque converter and my wheels holding me back? i think i should be running a lot faster than that. also after about 3500 rpms im getting a sputtering and that has started after i put my k&n air filter on it? what could cause that?
thanks for any help

That stock converter is DEFINITELY hurting your 1320, that cam and those heads plus the 3.73 would make me want to suggest a 2600-3200 stall speed (depending on how much street cruising you do). I have a similar cam and heads and am using a 2800 in my AOD. I think your powertrain should get you a low 12 assuming you can get reasonable traction. You are also in the area where that 8-inch may become suspect, particularly if you get enough traction to get those 12.1s

As far as your"sputtering", this did not happen with your old air cleaner? It is hard for me to imagine the K&N made anything worse, try putting your old one back on. 3500 RPMs might be where your secondaries (are they vaccum or mechanical?) are opening. It could be getting too much fuel when they open, or alternatively it could be starving at that speed.

I would agree with exactly what edbert said. Definatly inthe mid 12's. I would also go with right around 3000 + or - converter depending on how much street driving you do. Hey! Rose creek huh? I am from Mazeppa. Alot of relatives in Austin. Are they going to have their car show again this summer?? I also know a Dale Bison with a 70 torino cobra from rose creek, know him??

hey
well i put my old ram air setup with my 8" filter back on and the sputtering went away. so my torque converter is holding me back alot i guess....i think ill get about a 3,000 stall this summer...

I'll bet the carb's jetted too lean. As for guessing 14's, I've learned that guessing 1/4 mile times is damn near impossible. Only an actual trip down the 1/4 mile will tell.

So the K&N's additional airflow is making the starvation more apparent?

i got one more question...the other day when i drove home my radiator started to boil over and this just happened today cuz it was the hottest day this year so far and i just put a small electric fan on and i dont think it moves enough air to cool my engine..is there an electric fan that i could get off another car at a junkyard and hook up to my car?
thanks

Yes, there's a big difference between the stock paper element and a filter like a K&N.
