is that a windsor block? what headers did you use? z-bar setup?

Its a Dart 8.2" block. Runs shorty headers which are far from ideal and very restrictive. Runs an AOD, so no z-bar.

10.80's@126mph though.

Converter is also way too tight for the engine. 3500 stall, takes forever thru first gear to get to the 8200 shift point.

I run AFR 205's in my 65'. Had Vic Jrs before. Tight fit for headers-that is the worst part of the 351w based motor swap, no matter what head you use.

If you get headers from someone like Accufab, specify raised exhaust ports.

408 gets my vote as it can give you 400hp at a much lower RPM than the 351 (but as said a good 351 can do it too.)

there's a big difference between an 8.2 block and a 9.5 block.

with a 9.5 block, 1 3/4" FPA long tubes, z-bar setup, 164 tooth clutch setup and TFS high ports, it was a major pain. but achievable without dimpling any tubes.

it would seem the smaller compartment of a 65-66 would be even more difficult with a setup like above.

i've seen the accufab's and they look much nicer than my FPA's.

No need to build a stroker for around 400hp in a 351...You are right around the limit of the stock rods though so I would look into an aftermarket I beam rod instead of getting the stock ones resized with good arp bolts..Especially if you plan on spraying it with a little nitrous...

If you haven't started on the 351 yet I would consider doing a 289/302 based 347 stroker..It fits in the 65-66 chassis a little better and header selection should be a lot easier..

I agree with the numbers you are looking at you could easily do the same thing with a 302 based stoker and have room the 65-66 are a lot tighter than a 67 and above.

I have the accufabs in mine and the fitment and quality of the welds suck.

Sorry I didn't put 2 and 2 together with this thread about the highports and header question.

Hey, let me know how things are going, I am doing the same mod but with a 81' stang and a roller 351w. I am shooting for 500+rwhp street stalker. It would be great to hear!!

does anyone have fitment experience with raised exhaust ports on a windsor in a 64-66 mustang?

js66coupe, what AFR heads were you looking at?
383/393/408 would probably all benefit from something larger than a 185cc head

once i put some more miles on my 5.0, id like to build up a windsor and may just go with shorty headers for simplicity. my current long tubes took some fabricating to clear my AOD. with the windsor, i may want to just jack the motor anytime i change plugs

Im running Victor Jr heads (raised ports) and Hooker Super Comps (1 3/4 primaries) They fit well but you do need to massage a few tubes and they take some time to install...but for a stroker windsor they are a must!

I switched to a Canton T Pan and run the ron morris adjustable drop mounts and my motor fits under a 65 GT350 hood.

My vote would go for the 408 also. It'll be easy to get it over 400 hp and still be very streetable.

Build Update

For those interested, I thought I'd provide an update:
I'm doing a 408W, build is nearly complete. The specifics are:
Stroker 351W=>408
CR about 10.4:1
Forged Crank, forged Rods, forged pistons, RA internally balanced
AFR 205 Heads prepped by FTI
Custom HR Cam by FTI. (23xI/24xE)
Edelbrock Vic Jr intake
Ford C6 w/ converter by Ultimate Converter Concepts
Ford 9 inch diff
Ford PowerTrain App. 1 3/4" LT Headers

Still along way to go on the car as it needs wiring and paint. Will let you all know how it goes. Thanks.

very nice build, I've got essentially the same thing ( 392w ) with RPM Air Gap intake.

perfect compression ratio for the street. have you already got the C6 under there?

Engine is just being finished up now. The C6 is not in yet. The shop dropping in the motor and trans put a 460 Big block and C6 in a '66 Fastback a while back so they're not expecting anything they can't deal with. They typically like to fab up whatever they need to make things work. Originally, I wasn't planning to use a C6 but it was given to me so the price was right.

Sweet, perfect reason!

Let us know what they have to do to get it to fit and if you like it : ).
