Alright, heres a question I have. I have a 351W crankshaft not being used because my dad and I stroked out his 351W to a 408. I want to stroke out my 88 302. And my question is that could I put the 351W crankshaftin the 302 block and buy new connecting rods and pistons? Would that work?
Like he said, the 351W main beaings are too large, and by quite a bit. 302s have 2.25" mains and the 351W has 3" mains. Since the main bearings are held in by the main caps, no, you cannot use 351 caps in a 302. The bolt spread is wider also.
alright thanks it was just an idea I thought of because I know many of the windsor parts are interchangeable. Trying to save money, but I'm gonna go with a ESP 347 Stroker kit forged, rods, SRP pistons.
That was a fairly common procedure before all of the nice stroker kits came on the market. They would offset grind the crank to use ford 2.3 liter rods, resize the rods to chevy wrist pin size and use an off the shelf chevy piston.
It wasn't cheap.
Also, I believe that it was a risky proposition. Not all cranks can be ground that far without messing up the oil holes.
