Awesome! It's got 131k on the odo, but in a few years I hope to rip it out of there and rebuild it for my 98' v6 vert. Plenty of time, plenty of work. I'll find my true muscle car eventually though.
So what's the difference then? I know the lightning has GT40 heads and intake but what is the difference between the shortblock that make the lightning more desirable?
Forged pistons. I'm not sure if they are dished for the blower or if lowering the compression was done only with 64cc heads. They may have had spot-faced rod bolt holes and football topped bolts, but I'm not sure on that either.

I am pretty sure that gen 1 lightnings did not have blowers? I am also pretty sure that they used hyper pistons not forged.
The stock 351 would most likely have cast pistons. Can anyone confirm that?
So what other differences might there be?
I am on the pursuit of a 351 for my project and I would like to find one with the most bang for the buck (ie. least amount of changes from factory specs required)
Whoops, yeah yeah you're right. I get my Lightnig info crossed between generations sometimes. In that case the cam may be different to take advantage of the GT-40s, but I suspect little else is changed.
