Hi all,
I've used this site to get much info but this is my first post. I have read all the recent posts and searched but still have unanswered questions.
Please help.
I'm putting a 351w in my 65fb, Do I need to change to the 66 style mounts at the frame? (between the rubber mount and the frame).
I remember reading this somewhere in the past (hooker catalog?).
Second question: I am running a non-air gap RPM on the 351w and had a shelby hood on the 289, will the 351w fit under this hood? if so what air cleaner works. The car is going out to paint soon and I need to send the right hood.
I appreciate all the help but please respond only if you know for a fact or have done this swap yourself.

Thanks

I've done this swap and I'm running the 66 style mounts. I've seen guys run the 65 mounts, but I think the 66 style allows the engine to sit a bit lower. Plus, the 65 mounts are bad about breaking if you have a very stout engine.

I think you'll have clearance issues with the RPM intake. I'm running a standard Performer intake with a Hi-Po air cleaner and 2" filter under a stock hood and it just barely clears. Unless you run a small diameter air cleaner, I don't think the Shelby hood gets you any hood clearance.

Just my $0.02

From Chris' experience you should be OK. I wonder what I've done different to have so little hood clearance. I've wanted to go to a Weiand Stealth intake but thought it was hopeless to fit under my hood. I am running a reproduction stock hood, which I don't think has quite the arch of the original hood I had before the car was painted. I think I lost a little clearance there, plus I have about a 1/4" spacer under my carburator. Does anybody know about how much taller an RPM or Stealth intake is compared to a Performer?
