‘94 F4TE junkyard block 351w
Blown cylinder (only 1) , made a noticeable gouge. Bent rod.

Is this cylinder wall worth fixing? What are my options ? Could boring/machining the wall be the answer?

I would try and find one in better shape. Search “F4TE 351W roller block”. They came in 94 and up E series vans and F series trucks. Used to be fairly easy to find when I built the 351 in my T-Bird but that was about 10 years ago. If it was me I would scrap it and move on.

So with that in mind, do you or anybody here know if instead of buying a roller conversion kit (dogbone and spider retainer, etc) I can just reuse the one from the junk block onto a 351w that isn’t a F4TE?

You cannot. The lifter bores are shorter on non-roller blocks. You would want to get link lifter like Morels or whatnot and go from there. Thread from the Corral with Woody in it and that guy has built hundreds if not thousands of for motors. Ed Curtis also gives his .02 and he is super knowledgeable.

Some (hopefully) good news, found a ‘93 Lightning 5.8;

Question:
Does this year come as a roller? Provided is what looks like an oil passage that has the screw in for the spider hold down. The set is missing but I’m thinking I could just replace it with my junk 5.8 roller pieces

93 was a split year for the roller f4te block, the later months having provisions for a roller setup. All lightnings were flat tappet, so that’s why the parts are missing.

Luckily it looks like this one is roller ready, I wonder though.

Will I need to find a specific cam to replace the flat tap cam in order to roller convert ? I’m not sure if my blown ‘94 5.8 has a cam worth reusing or reusing the one in my 302. Since I’m going to pull out that block

The casting numbers are on the block above where the starter bolts up. They can be seen above the starter while laying under the vehicle.

The fact that the bosses are tapped (threaded) indicates to me that this is a roller block.
