3650 Fluid Type, amount ...additive

So whats the concensus Mobil 1, Royal purple, Redline, Dexron III. Should we use a petroleum based fluid or a synthetic. And whats the the best additive. Do we put in 3.2 quarts or 3.7 or 3.0. Need some feed back on this one. Also Lucas or some other additive? The manual is a bit cryptic on the subject.

I just changed my tranny fluid today, tremec recommends dextron/mercon III at the quantity of 3.0 to 3.2 liters. I did around 3.4 and it shifts much smoother.

So you went with the petroleum based and not the Mobil 1 synthetic.

I'm using royal purple and havn't noticed any differance in the tranny's shifting over the cheaper dextron III.

3.5 quarts of GM synchromesh here and love it. noticed a much smoother feel

I just changed mine out yesterday for the third time since buying it in September. This the first mustang that I've owned without a T5. Its an 03 Mach1. The car will sit sometimes for 2-3 weeks without being driven. I noticed that the car is very hard to shift when cold and has been sitting for a long duration. I first tried synthetic with not much difference. I then used regular DIII and it was very sticky and would even grind on its first shift into second after sitting. This car only has 7700 babied miles on it. I read a thread on the registry about using one full bottle of Lucas tranny fix and the rest Mobil1 ATF totaling together 3.2QTS. I only drove the car maybe 2 miles after the fluid change and it seemed to be much smoother (Hopefully I'm Not Imagining It) than before. After the short ride you could move through the gears without feeling anything. The real test will be to see how the trans shifts after the car sits a week or two. I'll post my findings in a week or so.

Right guys, so it seems like synthetic is the way. At 3.2-3.4 quarts with a little Lucas Oil. I also heard that Its way easier to put the Lucas oil in the tranny if you heat the bottle up first.

If you mix the Lucas additive with the ATF in a jug first it will be much easier to use.

I just drove the car after it sat since Wednesday. The car shifted great. I am sold on the Lucas tranny fix. The car did not feel sticky on the first to second shift when cold.

The TR-3650 is just 'tighter' by nature...I row thru the gears every morning before pulling it out of the garage. The T-45 could care less, but the 3650 is more sensitive..I guess...in the end, it (the 3650) is much smoother, more predictable...it's notchy, but precise.
