I am stroking my 351w to a 393 and wondered if selecting a lighter crankshaft and rods would make any difference in HP. I am not building a high revving engine so I think the answer is no. The car is for the street and I am thinking about going with AFR 205's, custom grind Comp Cam, and a Vic Jr. intake. I have been round and round on which road to take, the AFR 185-Performer RPM (450-480 HP) or the AFR 205-Vic Jr. (500-550 HP). Anyways, which bottom end material will be the best for my application? I will choose from the SCAT lineup and need to know which would work the best and which is overkill. I will be using the SCAT I-Beam rods with 7/16" cap bolts. Thanks.

If you are buying an intire ratating assembly, why not build a 408? Parts cost the same, and seem to be the choice of racers. Extra cubes will tame those "high reving" parts. GO FOR IT! If you are spending all that money, don't skimp on an off the shelf cam.
