I'm trying to upgrad my alternator to a 3g on my 89 McLaren. The McLaren came with a 130amp Lestek Alternator similar to the ones used on the SSP's. That Alternator used the 4gauge wire along with the black/orange wires. Should I use the 3g in the same manner or eliminate the black/orange wire and only use the 4 gauge? The write ups and videos vary so much, I'm confused now.

Most people go to a 3g to get 130+amps, why are you wanting to change. Original 130 amp alt will make the ASC more original/valuable.

Have the original rebuilt if needed.

Just my 2 cents.

When the original went out in 06 no one would rebuild it for under $500. So I had a friend wire in a stock alt without cutting any plugs. I went and looked at 2 original McLarens today and they don't use the black/orange wires on the 130Amp Lestek. So I'm not going to use them on this 130 Amp upgrade. The black/Orange plug is one the original, just not used. I read it's the same alternator as the SSP's
