3G Alternator upgrade question

So I'm upgrading to a ford 3G alternator and I've got it hooked up via the mega fuse to the positive battery terminal. I'm wondering though what ignition source you guys think I should use for the other alternator wire?

Can I just use the wire that I have running to my ignition box or is there a wire from the original harness to use?

Also what do I do with all the old wires for the voltage regulator? Can I just cut and tape off?

There is also a little black thing the size of a AA battery near the voltage regulator. Can this be removed as well?

If the wire is 12V when the ign is on, that should be fine. It doesn't draw a lot of current, it is only used as a "turn-on" signal. Don't forget to use a 500-600ohm resistor in-line with it.

Yes, Solder. I covered mine with heatshrink and it's installed under the dash away from heat and vibration.

It should be fine near the alternator too. Just tape it down the the main output cable to keep it secure.

Your old regulator wires can be taped off. By the way, IIRC you can use the white wire for Ign feed.

I think that might be a noise filter. You can remove it. The 3G has all the regulation and filtering built-in.

so do I solder it to separate the wire as in between or can I just solder it in line with the existing wire?

Basically does it need to break the wire.

Yes in-line with the wire. You have to cut it.
