3rd brake light is faded any ideas?

It looks like crap..I am thinking about painting it black but wanted to see if anyone else had any ideas?

My dad gave me the idea to paint it black and use some tape that the body shop use at work and have like two lines and all the rest black..

thats a great idea. what should i put up there. it would have to be short. maybe just "rice sucks" that should get the point across

Whats weird is all the 99 and 00's 3rd break light gets faded out (mine is begining to warp as well...) but none of the 01-04's do it.

Yeah, my 99 started to warp up on the ends so I went to the local ford
dealer and bought a new one, I think it was around $80. Before that
I would steel wool the top and coat it heavily with armorall. I also moved
my spoiler back 2 inchs, which may provide more protection from sun damage.
Hopefully my new one is the 01-04 type.

My light on my 99 is bad as well but I think part of the reason that it is bad is beacuse my car spent 4 years of its life in California. I thought about getting some cheap limo tint and covering mine with that or painting it. Somewhere I saw a precut decal that covers the whole light but don't remember where.

Guys, they're easy to fix.

Go buy a few sheets of 600, 800, 1000 and 1500 grit sandpaper as well as some Meguiars plastic polish. WETSand the crap out of it in the sink and it will be like new.

Mine was faded and awful looking, with an hour or two of sanding and polishing it looked *flawless*.

This works on headlights as well.
