Hey again...have a question.....and please dont laugh at me because it is not my fault-somethings wrong here

Whenever I get on my car, whether it be a street race or just playin around-almost 8 out of 10 times I miss 3rd gear! :nono: I NEVER MISS A GEAR!

Seriously, I never miss a gear. I have never missed a gear in any other car, and been driving/racing sticks forever. When I say miss a gear, I actually cannot get it in 3rd gear. It refuses to go. If I drive like I am supposed to to work and such, it goes in gear fine, under pressure, it refuses.

And please-ITS NOT ME. I can get out of it and into another and do just fine. There is still a warranty, and I have tried to explain, but since I am female I guess the machos think I cant drive.

Any suggestions??

How do you hold the shifter on the 2-3 shift? Ifs it a stock shifter? Is the tranny in good working order, ie the synchro's are not shot?

If you "grab" the shifter on the 2-3 you are VERY likely to miss it. If you palm the shifter (have the shift knob between your thumb and pointer finger) and just push it straight forward it will go in 99.9% of the time, ESPECIALLY if you have an aftermarket shifter that has an internal spring that forces the shifter over towards the 3rd gear gate when it comes out of 2nd.

My best recommendation is get an aftermarket shifter and palm the shifter pushing it staright forward on the 2-3 shift and you'll never miss it again.

Also, I had trouble with my TKO a while ago and I kept missing gears, well after grinding them a few times I hurt the synchro just enough that under normal driving it'd go in fine, but when I was racing it'd either grind or not go in at all. I had to have the synchros replaced.

 And my husband is a tranny man!!!

Yes, stock shifter. Are you familiar with the stock shifter in a Mach 1? It is kinda laid back, at an angle that is supposed to be easier to shift. In other words, 1st gear in my car looks like 2nd in someone elses.

And then maybe I thought it might be the clutch. I am all of 115 lbs, and for me to even push the clutch in it stands me in my seat. It is tough. But it works when I need it to like this.

I dont know, I just pray every race that I am far enough ahead to let off BEFORE I have to shift into 3rd, or I try to "granny shift" third so as the other person doesnt think I am stupid!!

Beat a HEMI and missed third, came back and wore him out!!Was ahead from the start, until 3rd, he caught up, and I finally jammed it and left!

yeah, if i grind a gear, it's always 3rd...
i dont really understand why, but i was grinding 2nd gear a lot when i'd rip on it when i had th stock shifter...then i put in the MGW and i had NO grinding whatsoever....now i have the stocker back in (long and complicated reason why, dont care to explain) and i keep grinding 2nd again.......i haven't barked 2nd in a while cause i cant shift it fast enough anymore without it grinding....with the MGW i'd chirp em nice, sometimes even spin em a bit when i'd hit 2nd, but not anymore.....stocker is a POS!!!! get and MGW...best shifter ever!

I was going to type all of that out, but just read his posts twice and pretend it was mine the second time. He's right on the spot.

My 3rd never misses interestingly enough and there's 148k on the trans, lol. Lucky I guess. It was pretty cool the other day..I CHIRPED 3rd. With my combo, I didn't think I could do that.
