Well, I was going to install my 4.10's myself and have my boss's son (who builds race cars) direct me on what to do, but he never seems to get any free time and I am ready for these things to go in. There is really only one shop around here that I trust enough to do the install, and that's Midway Ford. They couldn't give me a quote on the install though. They said it's hard to tell for sure how long it would take, but the rate is $75 an hour. How much do you guys think it would cost me to have them do this install?

I just got a quote from a rear-end shop and they quoted me around $400 for the install. Everywhere else I have checked has been 700-800

Plus there is a new S281 and a built fox always there (they work there) so I would trust them more.

Ok well, I'm wondering why the hell it would take a dealership more than 3-4 hours, considering I have the install kit and everything. All they have to do is put it all in there. $75 per hour X 4 hours= $300. That seems reasonable to me. Would it take longer than 4 hours?

The dealer goes off their book time. Best place to go is a Mustang shop or a performance/4x4 shop as they tend to quote for the entire job and do enough of them they can afford to be cheaper. $300 max to do it.

It's usually $300-$400 for a gear install. But it really depends whether or not your putting in new bearings which takes a long time. We took my bearings out w/ 100k on them ready to change em w/ my master install kit ready to go in, and they were perfect so we just used the shims and spacers. I brought it to a guy in Suisun city who works on mustangs on the weekend for people and he charged me $180 so i gave him $200. Nice guy and helluva deal considering the best price o could find around here was $400

I got my gears done from the same guy. And it does not take 3-4 hours. Got mine done in 1 hour and 30 minutes
