The Stang is back from the dealership - $1300 later, the rearend is silent. Time to start seeking repayment from this turdstick. I'll post up pictures later of some of the destroyed parts the Ford Tech pulled out (I had him place all the old parts in a box for me).

Whine!

I was told to drive the car easy for 500 miles and the whine should go away, but it's definitely still here. Guess I will be making a road trip this weekend to get it fixed. Correct me if I'm wrong but he should be picking up the tab on the repairs, correct? Even if new parts are needed?

This is total Bull**** that they will get quiet. Either they are quiet or they are not. I bought used FRPP and they whined even with having them setup right as I watched him. I knew it was a gamble as once they are not setup right and you run them in another pumpkin they will not be able to be fixed. I had to buy new ones and pay again to have installed and no whine afterward. Big Lesson! Hopefully the original installer can set them correctly and you have not already grooved them in enough that this can be fixed. Because he he may have ruined them. You should not care what he thinks as if he is worth his salt as a mechanic he will fix it right.
Right now on my new 2000 GT I have Richmond 4.10's (got them with the car) and they are known to whine but these only have a hint at that "just off throttle on the highway in 5th." They do however roar not whine at above 95 mph. I think this could probably wear my bearings out quicker. I don't know?

Don't be intimidated as this guy did not do it right and is going to cost you quite possible and extra 400.00? For that I would confront him and take his crap about this while he is doing it again.

Don't be Skeered!

Yes that sounds like a resonable course of action, better than attempted
murder. And thank you for convincing me to stay with my stock gears.

Gears are the one best thing GT transforming bang for your buck you can do IMO. Really I have had the 3.73 and now the 4.10's and I think the 4.10's are little much. I could also live with getting about 2-3 mores miles per gallon too. I drive mine for a daily though. Daily 3.73's are plenty.

Just when you decide to do them which you should ask around or quiz the people here. This is a big site and I'd bet someone would be in your city and they would know. What you need to do is research how it is done as I have seen this somewhere on the Wild World of Web and then ask to watch them do it. I had mine done for 250.00 and the gears I got from Gene Evens ford for 149.00 to my door. If you have a 70000 plus on yours I would do the bearing rearend rebuild to. Maybe cost you 500.00 total? I would look around and not pay 1300.00. Not dogging this guy as I know it is piece of mind for him but that is a little pricey.
