4.10s or 3.73s for Daily driver?

Wouldn't 4.10s be to hard on the freeway?

You would just be running at higher rpm's.

4:10's No Less!!!! A friend of mine has an auto with 3:73's and has wished he had gotten 4:10's ever since.

the prevailing sentiment seems to be:
1. if you have an auto, go to at least 4.10's..maybe 4.30's
2. if you have a 5 speed and are staying naturally aspirated, go with at least 4.10's
3. if you (like me) are going to put on a supercharger, get 3.73's

go with 4:10's. 3:73's are a bit of a difference but not enough. I drive 70% freeway and 30% town and I will still get 4:10's. Just take you car for a spin down the freeway in 4th gear at 2700-3k. runs very smooth. In your case the 4:10's will proably help your around town milage a bit so it should ofset the fact that you freeway milage will be a bit less.

I have a 99 GT Vert Auto.... I was a bit disappointed with my 4.10s at first. I was expecting more. Still the best bang for the buck.

I like the 3.73s. The rpms are still good and low highway and 1st gear is fast but useable 'round town. They should come stock with a 5 speed. I would recommend 4.10s for an auto though.

I like my 373's. I can't imagine having to shift into 5th at only about 110 mph on the highway with the 410's. My '03 Vert 5 speed pulls hard right up to 130 mph in 4th now that I have raised the rev limiter 500 rpm's. Try taking on a 350Z or Porsche Boxster on the street with 410's, you will be handed your ass. Running out of gear on the highway is the ultimate embarassment.

I hate to break it to you but the 4.10s don't reach their top @ 110-140. They still reach their top where you can't go cuz your car is still underpowered. @ 6000 rpms in 5th gear w/ T45 you should be doing about 175-180. So you don't run out of gear w/ 4.10s...Source: www.tchracing.com

Thanks guys your opinions, helped. I'll stick with the new FRPP 4.10s i ordered for 130 shipped and be happy. Just hope my mileage does go to _ _ _ _ .

I have noticed on many threads including this one that people recommend something higher (4.1's instead of 3.7's) for automatics. Why would an automatic need something higher. Does the stock auto come higher to start with?

automatics have a higher drivetrain loss, so 4.30's on an automatic feels like 4.10's on a manual, (3.90's on an automatic would feel like a 3.73's on a manual)

Hey Downsouthman, you don't have to break anything to me. I was talking about 4th gear with the 410's. You will redline in 4th at about 110 mph. I live in rural nj and rt. 80 is empty some hours of the day, very easy to reach 130 or more on this road. Miles of straightaways. it is a 3 lane highway with NO cars on iy at times.
