Well ... it took me a few phonecalls, but I was able to locate a Ford dealer that agreed to look at my car.

I had my intake replaced outside of the dealership months ago, and have been waiting for this settlement to recoup most of my money. I *might* break even with the $735 if I can get it. (Lets see, $300 for a PI intake, $125 for "plates", $250 labor to get it replaced, another $125 labor to get it replaced AGAIN when it leaked ... gee, this won't even cover what it cost me).

The first Ford Dealer I called gave me the "without a receipt we don't even have to talk to you" speech ... I pressed the issue, asked for the service manager, he repeated their tirade, then told me "without a receipt you have to take it up with Ford directly" and gave me some 800 number to call. I called, it was the roadside assistance number ... since I don't need a jump or a tow I hung up. Bastage.

Called another dealer, was given the "need a receipt" speech ... pressed to talk to someone else, and got a woman who knew what was going on. She told me it'll take 15 minutes to "check over my #'s" and make sure my situation was valid, and I'd get a check in 8-10 days.

So ... now ... I have to find a decent-weather day to drive up, dig out my car from storage, replace the battery, fire it up, and drive all the way to a Ford dealer out of the way (the first dealer was like 15 minutes from where my car is stored) without sliding off the road into a ditch.

Fun times ... I almost think they planned this to end in December and only run for 90 days on purpose, to try and screw over us Northern drivers who put their cars away for the Winter. (I'm REALLY glad I didn't store it in the facility where you drop your car off in November and you can't even get into the building until late April!)

Guess I'll go watch the 10 day weather forcast.

I just got my letter yesterday. I dont know if mine is cracked or not, is there any way to check? The letter says it costs money to have them inspect it and i dont want to waste the 140 dollars labour costs for them to check it and there be nothing wrong.

Also what causes them to crack, cold weather? because mine has never been driven in winter...

Also, is there anyway to make them crack.. .. ..

My crack occured around the t-stat housing - So somehow the coolant passage on the head was damaged around the top surface causing the gasket not to seal correctly. I guess it actually started to erode away part of the head by the looks of it. I called the ford dealer and they said to bring it in, but it was all torn apart!! Had I only waited a day they would have fixed it all for free....really awesome timing!

Anyways the guy at the dealer said I should put it back together and they would see if they could get the head replaced for free because it was caused by the faulty intake. BUT I have long tubes attatched to those heads, so Im sure they would soak me for removal and installation and a it would be in the shop for a week or so - I just didnt want to screw with it so I filled in the void with JB weld, wich is still doing a great job!

mine took 10 days. you will receive a check from the dealership, not ford itself, so it depends on how long it takes for the dealership to send out the check.

I have a 2000 motor in my garage that I will be putting in a 96. Do you think they can get a serial number from the motor to verify it is a 2000 and replace the manifold??

Guys heres the deal. If you got a letter about the lawsuit, and you have had your manifold replaced, just sign it and bring it to the local Ford Dealer. Mine gave me a gigantic headache, but after a few phone calls to ford customer service, they finally called the dealer and straightened it out with them. I just got my check for $735.00, it took about 3 weeks. If your dealer is being stupid like mine was, you'll need to have ford customer service intervene on your behalf. My new manifold is not a ford original, and they do not have to inspect your car. The dealer told me I wouldn't be reimbursed for it, they are scam artists at best. If you had it replaced, they have to reimburse you, period. They are trying to scare people away so they wont have to spend as much under the lawsuit.

I have a 1997 GT and the intake manifold cracked three-four years ago. However, I think it was replaced with another intake of the same type. Are the newer ones better than the old ones or can I expect thisone to crack also?

Alright got a question. I have a 1998 Mustang GT, I replaced the intake with an aftermarket aluminum crossover intake. I did the work myself and have no reciepts. My car's warranty start date is March of 1998 which puts me out of the 7 year window. I went to Ford and they said I needed reciepts to prove it was replaced within the 7 years or they couldn't do anything about it. Is there a number I can call to get a hold of Ford Customer Service, or should I try another dealership???

Ford claims that only Mustangs made before 6/24 1997 are eligible for the recall and the class action lawsuit refund. Obviously the Mustangs before that date also have the same plastic intake manifold that cracks. Why have they put up this date 6/24 1997 ?????
