Is there only one set spot for the manifolds to crack at, or is it all along the front runner/cooling passage?

I know 90% of the cases ive heard of were of cracking happening around the thermostat housing.

But... ive noticed lately there is a slight amount of moisture on the very front passenger side of the intake manifold where it meets up with the head.

If its been replaced the front of the intake manifold will have the aluminum coolant crossover, just look at the thermostat and see if its sitting on plastic or aluminum. If its still black plastic, it hasnt been changed... or if it was, they bought the wrong one.

and then what if it's plastic, could I just visit the dealer and they replace it? I read a few threads some say you have to get it broken or some say because it is a recall or a lawsuit n somethin, they have to replace it no matter what. I was too lazy to pop the hood this morning on my way to PT

Did it have to be cracked for them to replace it or all of them being replaced no matter what? I have a 2000 Gt and have the crap plastic, so i know my time is running out to get it replaced.

Yeah whats going on with this intake situation. I have a 2000 GT and just took a look at it and noted that there is a small crack behind the coolant crossover. It's not leaking any fluid so far, but its only a matter of time. Is my car still covered or is it too late?

Well, I contacted my local Ford dealership to figure out whats going on. I gave them my VIN and it turns out that my stang IS covered. In fact, its covered until 12/19/07 (My warranty coverage started in 12/19/00 and the intake is covered for 7 years). Now the bad news: there is a small crack right behind the coolant crossover but it is not leaking yet. According to the guy I talked to, they can't replace it since it is not leaking. So for now I'm SOL unless that guy was wrong. I guess all I can do for now is keep my eye open for coolant leaks. Hopefully it breaks before the coverage expires.

What about sloshing some antifreeze all over the back of the manifold before you take it in?

Well mine has lost coolant, but not from the common thermostat housing crack. Mine is moist and getting the timing cover most on the passenger side of the engine up front.

For some reason I think I would be BS'd about it not leaking enough, or that its not coolant thats slowly leaking...

What do you guys think?

Dang, mine has been leaking pretty bad but its a 99 so Im pretty sure the the warranty is over with. Im gonna call though and see can't hurt i guess. The thing is Im the second or third (not really sure) owner of the car. I don't have any of the original warranty stuff can i take it to any ford dealership? or should i just give up and forget about it?

Check that out pretty quick. Just look for the mfr date on your car. Mine was in july. I miss the deadline on my 99 by one week. So you might want to help it along a bit. Mine cracked right at the thermostat.

INTAKE MAN

I had cracked my Intake manifold on my 1998 Mustang GT, and went to the Ford Dealership. They told me since my VIN didn't match up with the ones on the list ,then they wouldn't replace it. I said It really shouldn't matter since all of the 98's were a recall in the first place, but they didn't see it that way. Make sure your VIN matches up!!!

I can't find where the VIN list is to see if my car is on it to get replaced, because it isn't leaking...I just traded in my 97 for a 00 GT and it has almost 62k on it and it isn't leaking but I don't want to be stuck with a big bill for something they can pay for if/when it leaks. I know my manufacture date was Aug 00 so the sale/warranty date would have to be after that so I would think I am still under the 7 year mark. But what should I do if it isn't leaking?

Thanks a lot guys!

Chuck

EDIT: I was reading on the settlement site and it said you had to submit your claim for reimbursement by March 16th 06? Is it too late even though I am still under my 7 years?
