I'm new around here so p-lease bear with me. I own a 99 4.6 Gt with 5speed. I recently purchased the KB blower ( non intercooled) for that car. Except for some minor questions, the install went great. The last thing I did was to install the KB chip. There were no specific directions for this btw. In any case, once the chip wa sinstalled and the key turned I noticed a lot of odd things, like: 1. the fans immediately turned on, 2. the fuel pump didn't run, 3. the odometer read ---- 4. the theft light started blinking. I pulled the chip and tried to restart the car on the stock computer, everything seemed to work fine except the car ran very rich (which I would expeect witht he bigger injectors) I did this little song and dance a few times w/ the same results. It's on a weekend (of course) so I have no other resources to contact. Thanks.

you don't have a good connection between the chip and the computer. make sure that all the silicon that was on the computer circuit is cleaned off. make sure none of the silicon is inside the chip connections. if all this fails, then the chip is probably bad.

I'm sure that's not the issue, I cleaned the daylight out of the connectors.

Clean the coating off, then lightly sand with the provided emery pad. Even
after you get the gunk off you have to sand to get a nice shiny connector.

It's clean, real clean, like eat off of it shave in it clean, really, I mean it.
Just for grins I put a code reader on it, it came back with "no link" so is there some fuse or circuit breaker some place that I may have tripped?, I checked the connectors and they're in good shape. I have this module out so many times I need to put a zipper on it.

the symptoms you are getting is from the computer not recognizing the chip. like i said, either the connection is bad, or the chip is bad. if the car shows the mileage without the chip, the problem is 100% with the chip or the connection to the chip.

Well, unfortunately, now, the car will not show the mileage with the chip in OR out. I ran a scan on it and it says that there is "NO LINK" so either 1.there is a fuse or circuit breaker blown 2. the computer is now crapped out (thanks KB) or 3. the computer AND the chip are bad.

Yes, the first couple of times, then I probably screwed up and forgot to. I've been thrashing on this thing for about 14 hours straight now. But I would say that yes, I have had the computer dc'd without the battery being disconnected. I wonder how much destruction that caused?

Installing/removing a chip without disconnecting the battery just sounds like a really bad idea.

You probably did what I did... I cleaned the "top" of the connectors but not the "bottom". The connections are on both sides. Once I did that the whole thing came together.

That's starting to make sense now. I installed the chip and connected the battery, the chip probably had a crappy contact so after installing/reinstalling several times, I talked to a buddy about those contacts. I took the computer and chip over to his shop and we cleaned the heck out of them, I went home and reinstalled them, the car recognized the computer for about 30 seconds then started the FUBAR thing. So, on Monday I'll head to the Ford dealer and see what it will take to rehash the computer and match it to the key chip. Go back home DISCONNECT the battery, reinstall (for the 100th time) the KB chip and pray all is happy. I'm sure it will be $$ but crying about it won't make it any cheaper. I just hope the SOB finally works because I'm getting sick of looking at it.
