4.6 Motor Oil ?

Btw... I won't be doing 25,000 mile oil changes. Probably closer to 10,000 miles?

dont change your oil every 10k unless you like sludge and paying guys liek me too fix it..

i dont care what the oil says about how long too use it.. the mustang is run just a little bit harder than a taurus (i would'nt even change the oil every 10k in a taurus)

really?? how much are you saving changing at 10k comapred too 3k. is that few bucks worth paying for a motor...

i use motorcraft 5w20 and motorcraft filter. which im lucky enough to get for free since i work for ford lol
but everyone really should be use 5w20 unless you have a mod that calls for something else. i say this because the 4.6 engine is nothing like the older mustang 5.0 engines. all newer ford engine's 4.6 , 5.4 etc run much tighter clearances and needs the thiner oil to totally lubricate properly.

Why?

You do realize that back in 1991 when the 4.6 was first developed and put into its first vehicle Ford specified 5W-30 and that did not change until 2001 when Ford went to 5W-20 for lots of motors, not just the modular motors. The modular motors were designed from the beginning with tight tolerances. When Ford released the TSB in 2001 the only thing they mentioned was fuel economy, nothing about tighter tolerances. That is just the dealer mantra they use to coerce the masses. :nonono:

Just for giggles, here is a used oil analysis of my GT with Mobil 1 5W-30 after 4950 miles and you will notice they comment that the overall wear for this oil change interval is less than average for this type of motor. That would seem to indicate that 5W-30 lubricates just fine :D

I wonder what kind of (test vehicle) car Amsoil used when the showed a photo (on their site) of 6,200 mile used oil? Looked really clean - Looked like used conventional oil that was run only 500 miles. Perhaps it was a "trick"?

Can't answer that because I've only been using Amsoil for about 100 miles.

There are going to be people resistant to extended drain intervals. Whether they like it or not, it is coming. Even the oil companies are moving away from the 3K crap and the automotive manufacturers have never been on that boat. Ford specifies 5000 mile oil change intervals for the Mustang and some automotive manufactures suggest 10000 mile oil change intervals and some even higher.

Why people seem to want to cling to the 3K oil change interval baffles me. I guarantee you that none of these guys whining about extended drain intervals have ever tried it and none of them have ever done a used oil analysis. They haven't a clue what the condition of their oil is when they drain it at 3K.

Funny thing is most of these people preaching the 3K oil change aren't as finicky when it comes to the rest of the fluids in their car. Do they flush their transmission fluid at 3K, how about engine coolant or their rear differential fluid, power steering fluid, how about their brake fluid? All of these systems are just as vulnerable to contamination as engine oil. Heck, an automatic transmission can cost just as much as a motor but, do you think these guys are flushing it every 3K, 10K or even 15K?
