4.6 strokers?

they make a 5.0 a 5.1 i seen where's there's a 324 kit anyone know the bore and stroke? there hi dollar i know.i got 15,g to spend.toping it with a k/b should this be in the stv section for its a dohc motor??
 
big bore all the way... the valves in the 4.6 heads are shrouded because of the stock bore size, increasing the bore is a sure way to make some real power. btw, check your grammar, my head just exploded trying to read your post
 
My 306 stroker is fast as hell. Way more torque and power than a 4.6. No need for big bore in my opinion. Especially wth the blower. It will put way too much stress on the block. Just my .02.

You are talking about a pushrod motor. We are talking modulars. two different engines and our stroke is damn near the same as a 351 c.i Our bore is very small in relation and that is why Modular motors respeond well to a big bore set up. How will the big bore put stress on the block when it is resleeved? Please explain your comment as this is the very first I have ever heard of a Big Bore putting stress on a block.

He has a 2V modular.

You cannot make a 2V block into a big bore. You can only use the Cobra aluminum blocks. Check it out. VT only does Cobra blocks exchange. The most you can bore out a cast 2V block safely is .030 over, the cylinder walls are too thin. I've done a hell of a lot of research.

Actually you can big bore an iron block, but it must be wet sleeved. This process is somewhat cheaper than using an aluminum block, but the Darton M.I.D. sleeves needed are in scarce supply and can cost ~1,500 dollars alone.
However, most people rather use the aluminum blocks and they either dry sleeved (which can handle up to 20 psi and good for a mild blower set up or NA) or wet sleeve it as well.

Our stroke in stock form is 3.5" which is the same as a 351W which has 73 cubes more. The Big Bores go from a 3.5" to a 3.7" bore which benefits the DOHC motor.

I think it is safe to assume that the topic is about 4V's:nice: Now that we have established that we are referring to the DOHC, again, why is it not safe to make a Big Bore and why do we not need it?

A 4V is a different ball game. No machine shop or engine builder I have talked to will sleeve a 2V motor. 4V for sure they will. The best thing you can do is square off the motor. 3.75 stroke, 3.75 bore. With my 2V stock block no machine shop would do anything more than .030 over. Now that I have mine in it really hauls ass compared to a regular 4.6. If your going with an exotic block by all means, bore away. But as it sits, a 2V mod motor cannot be big bored, that's what i was saying. Not that you shouldn't do a big bore. Go with a Sean Hyland 370 Cubic inch block for $4000US if you want. If I had the cash, that's what I would have done.

hey man dont get me started on this grammer crap...this is the internet ..iam not being graded im I.?:Zip2: i been out of school to long ,,im 40 old car tech. i just know motor words.:shrug:
 
but in the subject at hand....chp makes a 5.1 mod motor cast block,i got alum blk.will eveything bilt up the same and what about the knock sensers ,,the same? only going 550 rwhp my goal every day streeter vacation car . all my ass. willl bolt on it a cast block?
 
On the subject of stoker vs big bore. If you compare the two at equal displacements, the big bore will make more power, rev higher, and be lighter than a stroker. The big bore will unshroud the valves and places less stress on the rotating assembly.

the iron block CAN be sleeved but the process requires the use of the Darton MID sleeves and the machine work required is not for your average engine machine shop. Sleeves and machine work will cost at least 2500.00.
