If you can your cams wouldn't it help make the 5.4 at top end. I personally like cams mid to high. I don't like all the power at a low rpm.

I gave $ 1900. for the 5.4 . The engine is a ford take out and was complete alt,inj everything needed to be a drop in . I started pulling the 4.6 last night
I think the oil pan and valve cover on the right bank are the only things that I will need to swap . I am not sure how many small problems will show up but I will keep a log and post it when this project is done .

What are you doing about the intake? I read that the intake is way too tall to fit under the hood and the stock intake is doesn't fit, so you need adapters or a custom intake.

he has options, they talk about this on the 4.6 to 5.4 bible, you can either modify a 96-98 cobra intake, use the new "spider" lower intake, then i believe you'd have to go with a GT-40 style upper intake.. or use the intake that looked like the cobra-r one that was floating around (if they are producing it)..

I am going with the sohc, I think that the dohc engine would have been more of a project than I wanted to tackle . With the sohc the computer , and harness will stay the same with only minor mods . The upgrades I have already done will transfer over , TB. MA. ect . this would not have been the case with the dohc engine . I feel like the money I saved in parts for the dohc will buy me enough mods to get the same type of numbers out of the sohc .

What else would be necessary for those of use 2v folks who are thinking about a 4v swap?

Is the article I posted not showing up or are people not reading it? It says that a 4.6 intake can be used and was used with spacers and that even with the spacers it will fit under the stock hood. The cams that come factory in the 5.4 are the same as the cams in the 4.6. The 5.4 DID produce its peak torque at 2500 rpms but it also produced more toque at just about all RPMS when tuned than the 4.6

They fit the 5.4 with a 4.6 intake and the spacers under a stock 99 gt hood.

If you read the post, HELLCAT_120 said nothing about what HE was planning to do about the intake. So I was asking HELLCAT_120 to tell us which of the options HE was going to go with. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Did you read the 5.4 bible at corral?
http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10896

It should have basically everything you need to know about the 5.4 4v swap, and if your going that way, go with the navigator engine and not the one from the van

Yes, I did, thanks. The difference is that he started with a 97 Cobra, already 4v.

No worries. I'm sure the answer is out there somewhere, but it can be a real pain finding it because it takes forever to weed through all the hits that end up being about something completely different. LOL

Let me start by saying that I make no claims as a wrench . I am just a idea type of person who has good problem solving and poor spelling : skills .
I first try to make things work and then make the better . I will run the engine
<5.4> as it is for starters . After sorting out the problems that are sure to show up I will address the intake . . I have been building MYSTANG for several years . I am not going to spend a lot of time at the track and I am more of a stop light racer than a real street racer . I wanted a well balanced Mustang , by this I mean a car that turns heads as well as spins tires . I think that with the future mods. that I have in mind MYSTANG will be a 475 to 500 hp. car , And have good braking , handling , sound , looks . I could have went with a 5.4 4v and run more hp. the the 2v will however I am only trying to have a fast car not break records at the track . I am not trying to impress anyone by showing them my car , I would show something else if that were the goal

We hav done a few of those swaps. You are on the right track. Just make sure when you go to drop the moto in...If you are going from the top..that you have an extra hand. The motor will go in from the top. You just have to play with it a little bit to get the angle right. That is where the extra hands come into play. LOL. If you are reusing the stock GT intake then you will need to get some intake adaptor plate made. Just take your time and you will be fine. If you have any questions feel free to call us or email us or PM us anytime. Good luck. And let us know if you have any questions.

GOBABYVROOMMM: To answer your question yes on the lighting motor setup with the eaton on it. The motor does like a cam setup that will Breath a little beater from mid to high RPM. On my wifes car we have an lighting motor setup in it. With our built motor and custom grind cams...basically the are similar to the stage 3 comp cams but a little different. The Torque finally dropped off around 5000rpm and the Motor looked like at: 6300rpm that it was still wanting to make more power. So yes the motor w/an 5 speed will love a cam that will breath a little better.....Makes for a fun ride that is for sure. LOL.

So from what I'm understanding. The 2v 5.4 and the 2v 4.6 use the same heads and cams? So it would be a fairly straight forward swap. I need a shortblock and all I'd have to do is swap my heads, cams, and intake manifold, tune it , and I'd be good to go?
