Why is it when you see the price of lets say an s-trim for a 4.6 vs a 5.0 it's always so much more pricey for the 4.6. I mean it's the exact same kit except for the brackets.

Also the returnless fuel system is quit a bit more complicated which adds to the cost.

5.0 kits are cheaper because the development costs have been recouped and their are WAY more modified 5.0's on the streets. Fewer mod'd 4.6's so the cost is higher. Simple economics.

do you guys think that with the new 05 coming out the prices of mods for the 4.6 will drop? How long did it take for the performance mods for the 5.0 to drop to where they are now?

I just figured the prices are so high for parts for our cars is because it is still a fairly new engine.

Check the prices for more upscale cars... like porsche's. They are like 12k for the kit.

Probably not significantly.

Took about 15 years. 1987 (first really good EFI Mustang) was 17 years ago. Took about 5 years to really get going and costs have been dropping bit by bit as time has gone by. BUT (and this is a big but) the basic architecture is like 45 years old, so old tricks could be incorporated into the parts.

4.6 SOHC came out in 1991 in the Town Car. And was ignored mostly until the 1999 came out. So it's been out and played with for a much, much shorter ammount of time. Plus gain's are not as dramatic, because it was designed to be very efficent while the 260/289/302 was designed to be long lasting and efficent in that order.

I would bet that the development cost were small, and have been covered(I could be wrong, but I doubt it). But put simply they are priced that high because people pay it, still simple economics. And, I wonder did the price on the old 5.0 blowers come down or just never really increase in price?
