what are your thoughts on this i have more than 70% of my parts for my aod-t5 swap there is a guy locally running a 4 cyl tranny in a mid 12's car with no problems personally i think thats a little iffy. im looking for a tranny and have access to a 4cylinder tranny out of a turbo coupe what should i do?

I know a guy that put one behind a 347. All I know is that to this day it could be still in working condition. While the rest of us are complaining about how weak the t5 is and are upgrading to TKO's your going to a 4 banger tranny lol. If ya go with it keep me posted.

yeah thats what ive been thinking MSTANG the swap then is almost the same as if i would be using a t5 then correct? the tranny is in my buddys 89GT which was an automatic he's going to a c4 and is getting rid of the tranny i can get it cheap as well. plus i need to keep in mind i will be running 5-6pounds of boost dont know if those trannys can handle that

I am running one right now and it shifts and runs fine and i do run the piss out of it somtimes and it has taken it like a champ.

I know those 4 banger tranny's have a different gear ratio. I think first is a little lower (could be good for gettin outa the hole) but otherwise, they are the same tranny. I don't think they put weaker steel in the gears, shafts, or synchros, right? Why would Ford do that? :D

I found a full 4 banger conversion pile of parts in Utah while I was back home for $300 at a JY. I thought about buying it just to sell for a bundle. The bell, clutch flywheel and pilot are the only difference.

Throw that 4 banger tranny in and try it. Worst case you have to change it like most of us t-5'ers have to do every so often.

The 4 banger tranny DOES have smaller ratio gears in them that are great for racing applications. The input shaft is smaller than a 5.0 T5 tranny. It will work great for a while is what I have been told. But like any stock T5 tranny, it's a ticking timebomb.

He is correct. The imput shaft is a bit smaller, which in my opinion could be a problem. Smaller is weaker. If you explode that imput shaft you might end up with some problems that you really don't want to think about.

Wow, looks like the guy I bought my car from knew something. He was telling me about that the day I bought my car. I didn't know to trust him or not, because I don't know if he is the one that messed my car up or not.
