Hey guys - I'm wondering if I can fit a 40 series tire on a 20" rim for an 07 GT with stock suspension. Here in NYC, 30/35 series tires just won't cut it - rims would get destroyed in no time and the ride would be crap. I really want 19" rims, but all the styles I like appear to come only in 18" or 20" - just my luck. To be honest, I would love to do 20 x 8.5 and 20 x 10 in rear to get a nice 5" lip, but wouldn't be worth it if the rims only last a couple weeks or the ride dislodges my kidneys. I was thinking about going 18x10 with 40 series but I think the rim would still look too small. Anybody know if 40 series will work on 20s? Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanx.

What tire were you considering? I haven't seen too many companies offering performance tires in a 40 series that would fit on the rims that you are considering, not on the back anyway. A 245/40-20 like what Nitto offers would work on the front (27.8" tall) and is pretty close to stock diameter. A 295/40-20 (29.5" tall) might work on the rear.

I'm someone else will chime in with some first hand experience that might help.
