I have a friend that is willing to give me 6 grand for my motor tranny and supercharger setup in my GT. He has a 351 windsor block that I was thinking about stroking to 408 and putting it in my gt with a powerglide trans. Looking to get the 408 to about 650 hp. Is this possible in my GT. I did the math and it will cost about 13 grand for everything minus the 6 grand for my setup would be 7 grand out of pocket. What do you all think?

Sounds like a good idea and if you want to be unique, go for it. Although its pricey and i'd rather spend the 7 grand on a fully forged 5.0 stroker, port/polished heads, the works and up the boost. Should be able to get a good 650 RWHP (no where near the max of the forged engine) out of it. Possibly even put in a TKO 5/600 or T-56. Or even buy a cobra engine and bolt on a turbo kit, easy 800+rwhp. There's lots of options out there. Just think them all through.

So this is going to be a track car? Powerglide only has 2 gears, get a cobra motor and Turbo it and put a Supercomp C4 in it with some 3:27 gears and u got both a track and somewhat street car. Or go to MMR or VT or MPH and have them send you a Shortblock some heads and cams and a KB that will be 650 on pump gas.i would say around 14k or a little more

I'm in the process of building a 408 for my 88 notch. I can't see why it would cost you anywhere near 14g's for a motor and tranny. The one thing that will be a pain in the ass is the wiring. Your car has a returnless fuel system, the 408 would require return style. you'd need an EECIV and harness from a Fox for firing order and no COP's. A forged 408 rotating asembly is about $1800, Dart 351 Block $3200, AFR 225 heads $2000, and you have one helluva monster motor that will laugh at 650hp, try closer to 800hp.
